It depends what currency your 5000 is. In US dollars you can easily get a top of the line 15'' macbook pro or dell studio 15 and still have have spare money to buy accessories.

Macbook Pro. Those are fast because OSX just destroys any competition from Vista or XP. And Snow Leopard coming out soon will only make it better. Macs are built around being intuitive, so they should be easy to use... with that kind of budget, you probably own an iPod as well. Using two apple products together helps compatibility.

Macbooks also are really durable and apple has excellent customer service in case anything does happen. Also, macbook pros have at least 7 hours of battery life. Just try getting that with any PC.

It doesn't seem like you'll be gaming that much, so stick with a macbook and you won't regret it.

Go for a Mac. I only got a bottom of the range white macbook and it's great! With a budget like yours you could get a 15" or 17" high powered one.

If you want it to last then definitely get a mac. It really will last you years and now they have all been updated they have the almost best battery life on the market (if not the best).

Don't get a mac. No matter how much money you have, they're not worth it and are far less usable for anybody with any amount of computer knowledge. I'd go for a dell XPS studio or, if you want to use your entire budget, an alienware. Top of the line, but very expensive.

If you want a truly amazing rig with incredible specs take a look at Alienware - they have the best in the business.

For fast look at the highest speed processor you can find and a motherboard configuration that allows for 4gb RAM or more. Also look at the memory sticks themselves and make sure you are running the fastest memory.

If graphics are an issue you want to look at using dual video cards - again with DDR5 memory and lots of it.

See for a laptop with these config:

Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHz

Intel 965G Motherboard

9 Cell battery or more.

2GB RAM

320GB Hard Disk

Any brand like Toshiba, Dell or HP is good!
