Why does my computer recognize my touchpad as a wheel mouse?

I posted a question yesterday that ties into this.
I'm trying to find a new driver for my touchpad so I can disable tapping, tap-to-click, tap lock and drag, etc. This touchpad is ultra sensitive.. and it's just a pain. I don't want to buy a wireless mouse because I usually don't have a hard surface near me when I'm working on it.
Right now, the driver I have thinks my touchpad is a wheel mouse, and it clearly isn't. I'm just frustrated to death. I tried a synaptics driver, and had no luck.. but it's possible I did someting wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling your mouse driver from the Device Manager? By doing this you will uninstall the mouse itself from your laptop and then when you restart the laptop, you will then have the basic mouse installed in your system. From there, you can configure the mouse from the Control Panel.

Added:

1. Right Click My Computer

2. Click Properties

3. Click Device Manager in the left pane

4. Scroll down to Mice and other pointing devices and double click

5. Right Click on your Mouse device and select uninstall

You will have to restart your computer for this to work.

Added again:

Well, that is the normal Windows Mouse configuration window for XP. Now you have the basic Windows mouse and it should have fixed your problem. If you want your other features, you will have to install the software again with the mouse and hope that your previous problem is fixed.
