With desktops you always get more speed for less money. If you dont really need the portability, get a desktop. Also a lot of laptops are faster for cheaper than they used to be. 2 to 4 gigs ram is plenty. I have a 500 gig hard drive but only use 100GB. I have 4GB ram but only use 32% of it. I have all the high powered stuff but seldom need it. Use Newegg.com, Fry's.com, and TigerDirect.com for comparisons. I personally dont think BestBuy is the best buy. And brand name to me doesn't matter as all the parts inside 95% of pc's are all brand name parts.

k those arent very difficult requirements to meet so maybe look into a Toshiba laptop, i dont recommend Dells and Gateways, but finding one to meet those req's should be easy, depending on the quality of video u want. for speed i recommend a core 2 duo or a i series processor or the AMD equivelent, a optical drive with DVD-DL burning capabilites if not Blu Ray. decent video card (for movies its not gonna be too important unless u want blu-rays) and u want a large HDD 1-2 TB since u will be storing images/video, and audio.

for all your uses, I do reccommend a laptop for the convenience of mobility and the fact that it takes up less space.

no sense getting a desktop if your not gaming.

did a bit of searching on ebay. this is an excellent choice for everything you need to do, multi tasking should be smooth and fast
