Mac users let me ask you this:
I have 3 PCs 1 has lasted me 5 years and only crashed once in those 5 years, which was entirely my fault for messing around with my system 32 folder.

The other is 2 years old hasn't crashed once and the only thing I've had to do on it is get a new monitor because the old one wasn't good enough for me.

The third has lasted 8 years and has never crashed, still runs windows XP on a Pentium 4, real old school.

As far as viruses out of all these computers I've only gotten a virus on the first one and that was only once my antivirus deleted it and that's that, so yeah viruses aren't as bad as they are made out to be, sure they can destroy your computer but as long as you don't do dumb stuff like go to websites with a bad reputation on click on all the ads on a website you'll be fine.

How many Macbooks offer a 2GB ATI Radeon HD 6770m or something equal to that? None!
How many Macbooks offer an Intel Core i7 2630qm for under $1000? None!
How many Macbooks offer a 7200 RPM hard drive for a decent price? Few!

(GPU=Video Card, HDD = Hard Drive)

Look here:
http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC721LL/A?select=select&product=MC721LL%2FA&mco=MjEyOTY5MDM#service_and_support
A 15 inch Macbook with standard parts:
-CPU: Intel Core i7 2630QM
-GPU: Intel HD 3000
-HDD: 500 GB @ 5400RPM
-RAM: 4GB
-Optical Drive: DVD Burner
-Warranty: Not Mentioned
-Screen: 15 in standard screen.
This costs $1800

Now look at what I can get off HP.com for the same $1800
http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dv6tqe_series/3/computer_store?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse1/home_SDP

I customized this 15 inch HP DV6T Quad with:
-CPU: Intel Core i7 2820QM, far superior to the Mac CPU.
-GPU: 2GB Radeon 6770M, far superior the the Mac GPU.
-HDD: 750GB @ 7200 RPM, superior to the Mac HDD.
-RAM: 8GB of RAM, twice as much as the Mac.
-Warranty: 2 Year HP warranty. Apple didn't even mention a warranty.
-Battery Life: 2 Batteries one with 5.5 Hours and another with 9 Hours. Apple didn't even offer me an extra battery.
-Optical Drive: Blu-Ray player and DVD burner, Apple only has a DVD burner.
-Screen: 15 inch True HD 1080P Anti Glare screen.

So again why should someone buy an Apple laptop?

I am a computer engineering student and yes both PC and MAC user. I'll give a good shot with my answer.

One reason I believe is that mac os x is very simple to use, compare to windows you have the complication installing and uninstalling any program, files hidden and manually you have to delete them. Then there's the registry editor, nobody wants to deal with that, and you have ridiculous .dll, .sys etc files.... (honestly even mac has them, you mess with them and good bye operating system and hello trouble)

Mac is only aimed for people who aren't interested in computers, these apple computers are for people who just want to do something simple.

Why did I buy a mac?

Simple, first viruses are very rare for mac os x. If I install an antivirus, it constantly does something on the background which is annoying, if you leave your laptop/desktop idle, it will start scanning which is annoying.

NOTE: You can still get a virus if you use limewire or other P2P software.

second, it seems like every college student is aiming for apple products, I find it annoying. Its like steve jobs has hypnotized everyone, "buy my products." They're good but not that great.

third, I did want a computer which doesn't require constant scanning for viruses, spyware, etc.

fourth, of course its slimmer and easy to carry around.

The PC definitely has the power, GHz, GPU memory, RAM, HDD etc... the only reason apple puts low rated parts (i.e. 2 GB video card on PC while 1 GB with mac) because of the battery life, they want most out of their battery.

Downfall of PC:

1. Hard to carry around because of size

2. Can be complicated if your not good with windows

3. Battery life is a big no no

4. Cheaply built, for some brands like dell reliability is a question

5. Screen failure, we had that with our laptops a lot.

Downfall of mac:

1. Memory hogger, it may manage memory well but it constantly requires alot of ram to open up big programs.

2. Heats up too easily, apple wants this to run quietly but whats the point if it gets hot when you watch videos?

3. Battery not accurate, 7 hours of life, many would get 6 or 5.

4. Can't use windows software on mac, no emulator for free

5. Doesn't even have paint like windows does

6. Keep it in warranty, once its out expect heavy bills

There are more downfalls but at the moment I can't think of some. Honestly if I had an option, I would buy a high tech laptop with max performance spec and put mac os x on my PC. I see no point of getting a macbook because they really are over priced for not being much of a computer.

EDIT; APPLE DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT....That is a LIE.

Customer Service for apple is as bad as anyone else. Its not the company but its just people are lazy to help one another.

I had a problem with my laptop, I took it to mac store their genius bar, some harddrive clicking sound. They told me it was normal some hard disk drive protection feature to keep the HDD from moving around. NORMAL? I actually did my homework and told the technician how to fix my laptop, it was because of my computer knowledge, my laptop is running in good shape or else my hdd would've failed.

Emily doesn't know what she is talking about. Macs are not "better." They are more appealing, they are nice and shiny. If you care about function, customization, and quality PC is the way to go. You get what you pay for with a PC. You can spend $300 or $10000, Mac only gives u a few options and they suck. Over priced. Its like buying a Cadillac truck to go 4x4 when you really should have got the better less expensive more customizable silverado. By more customizable i mean there is a **** load more availability of parts and accessories. People say Macs don't get viruses????? Why would they sell anti-virus programs for macs???? It's the fact no one sits around writing the virus software because you'll get more in return if you hack the larger PC market. As long as you don't do stupid crap online you'll never get a virus. NEVER BUY APPLE, i've had an iphone for a year and im going to sell it to buy a droid, itunes is annoying. it's all about dragging and dropping and unlimited storage.

A fellow mac hater =D

* PCs are upgradeable, unlike most macs

* Macs are overpriced

* I prefer Windows 7 over the Mac OS

* PCs are well built, macs aren't

* I don't like the color white =P

* PCs have better hardware, for a lower price

I'm just gonna leave that there...

My (home built) Computer VS The More Expensive Mac Pro

---My Computer---

*AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition Deneb 3.6GHz

*GIGABYTE Ultra Durable Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit

*G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

*ASRock 880G PRO3 AM3+ AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

*Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

*RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 730W SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply

VS

---Mac Pro---

*One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem”

*3GB (3x1GB)

*1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive

*ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB

*Unkown Motherboard/power Supply

My computer = $740

Mac Pro = $2,499

Which is better?

Well because Apple is just a better product. And Apple stands behind its product which is more than i can say for Microsoft. That's why Macs are so darn expensive.

So it's a Mac for me...:)
