MHz Performance Effect?

So I'm looking to get a new laptop (for day to day and also gaming).
While I can see that the new GPU has generally better performance overall, but I noticed the MHz is below that of my current one, how much will this affect the card? If any?

Based on the reviews, the 7670 flies way over the 5470, but I'm worried that the MHz might negatively affect my gameplay in more heavy games such as Guild Wars 2.

To clarify, I'm only worried about the graphics card, in every other aspect, the new laptop outperforms my current one, quad processors with double the speed of my current dual processors, double the RAM, etc. Only stumbling block for me is the GPUs

Don't listen to any of the comments. They are just crap. The newer GPU is much better than your old one. Clock speed doesn't matter, if the GPU's or CPU's use a different architecture.



The HD 7670m is faster. Processing power is 576 GFlop instead of 120 GFlop by the HD 5470. You can look at more stats at :

There is no GPU for Laptops that has a clock speed of over 1 Ghz. Because the heat output would be to high for laptops with the current GPU architectures

The MHz in the GPU may not have the clarity nor quality of the current one you have. The performance may be a little slower so you may experience lag. It's not always the case but if you wanted an upgrade you're better off betting something with more MHz, or upgrade to a GHz range. Compare your future GPU to know what's better for your gaming experience.



Gigahertz are slightly over 1,024 Megahertz if not exactly.

Gigahertz are measured in billions, as Megahertz are measured in millions.



none of these specs are Gigahertz except for your Memory speed.



Anything less than 1,024 Megahertz is not Gigahertz. Gigahertz are one billion cycles per second.



example: 400 MHz = can only be measured in Kilohertz

Notice that the 5470 has 80 stream processing units but the 7670 has 480. Let's do some math.

80*750mhz = 6ghz

480*600mhz = 28.8ghz



Now this isn't the only factor in what makes a GPU good, there's obviously a lot of other things that can affect performance. But it gives you a rough idea of the processing power of the gpu.

MHz is slower than GHz, for gaming better to have a speed 2.0 or > GHz
