Microsoft has upgraded its surface pro 2 hardware with faster processors. But..

based on your needs (Photoshop) i would suggest a mac

1) 13 inch mac vs 10.6" surface pro 2. When it comes to photo editing the bigger the screen the better.. 13" is still portable.

2) 2560*1600 resolution vs 1920*1080 resolution. For Photo editing (and for reading text and in general) higher the resolution better the experience. Although pixel density is comparable 227 mac vs 208 on the surface pro 2.

u ll love using the new internet explorer optimized for touch, though

though there are a few more advantages of getting the surface pro 2 (don't get the surface pro battery life sucks cos of ivy bridge processor) i would still recommend a MacBook pro for ur profession/ chosen area of work

the touch and type cover have been improved upon so its comfortable for typing.. But the surface pro 2 offers only 2 angles for the kickstand. If u have glare at the second position (said to be best suited for lap use) u have to change ur posture. The macbook pro being a laptop provides more angles and the keyboard is known to be ergonomic.

price:

u may be able to get a surface pro 2 128gb for $1150 with touch cover. And a retina macbook pro for $1300. IMO u wont regret the extra $150.. Future OS upgrades may be free just like mavericks and iworks is also free.. Both will have to be bought if u buy the surface pro 2

I have a MacBook Pro, I'm a student and it does the job. Though it's good for internet and watching videos, I've noticed the writing sucks on it, and there's no photo shop. They both have their pros and cons! It's completely up to you I suppose. One of the best things I've noticed from when I used to have a windows to know is it's about 500x faster. (Ex: I can just be laying in bed and open my laptop and start browsing the internet and use it right away). When I had my windows, this process was about 10 minutes long of waiting for it to start up and load everything and find an internet source.. So annoying. My MacBook Pro is always ready to go:)

Probably macbook, the surface pro is nice and has the full version of windows 8.1 but it doesn't have as good processing power and memory.

For photohop you will want a mac, but I suppose if money is an issue just get an air? or get a high end windows laptop, for example the laptop I just got cost my family £500 and the equivalent macbook? £2500

I would not have any of them given to me let alone buy one they are both locked down systems and the only thing you can count on is paying through the nose for everything, My advice for what it's worth is buy yourself a touch screen laptop. which will be a windows 8 system but at leased with that you can either Jail break W8 or do a dual boot windows and Linux system, With Linux everything comes Free, Operating System and 43.600 free Professional application software packages, Plus the fact Linux is the most advanced and worlds fastest operating system People will tell you Apple and windows is best, but they don't know who develops Linux operating system so here visit Linux website for yourself and Learn who and why Linux is the worlds fastest and secure operating system. Here is their web site address check it out it will open your eyes

Here is where you can download the Latest January 3rd free Linux operating system check it out here

Now you have learned something new keep it in mind before you buy a Surface or Mac

Do not buy a Surface due to the fact there is not enough storage (HDD). Macs are too expensive. You can now purchase a very fast 750 GB HDD laptop for what you would pay for a Mac.
