Well when i did a driver update and cancelled it I had no sound either, but i re-downloaded and re-installed it and it worked fine. Just use windows button+R and type in DxDiag and when it loads up click the sound tab( it runs a Driext X diagnostic test, shows you everything you need to know about your computer, you can save it as a notepad file too) and it will tell you the type of sound card you have. wither copy or remember the name/model/brand and look it up in google and download the drivers for the model you have. Should end up working fine, you will also need to download some codecs for windows media player too if you get errors.

start > control panel > sound and audio devices

click on sounds tab

At the bottom choose a program event, and it will display a drop down menu under sounds. IF you click on it many default sounds will be listed, choose one and click on the play button , you should hear a sound. if you do not listen any sound here then you have to reinstall the sound drivers. Use this program http://bestofrest.blogspot.com/2006/12/belarc-advisor-pc-audit.html

detect and google its name to find out its driver, which you can download and install on your computer easily.

On the taskbar, double click the small speaker icon. Then choose 'advanced' settings. Make sure that all volume sliders are turned up and that you havent checked the 'mute' box on either of the sliders.

check you have the corrct driver for sound or check the speaker output has not been muted by accident
