Ok so I've never had this much of a problem installing a driver before and have never had to post for help before. I have an Acer Extensa 4420 laptop and I just recently did a clean install from Vista Premium to business 32bit. The wireless in the laptop worked just fine before I did the new Install. In my device Manger I'm missing the network controller. I went to the acer support website and downloaded the two options they had for wireless drivers for my specific laptop, Broadcom and an Atheos driver. They're both clearly the wrong driver. With every driver I try, I always attempt to install the driver 3 different ways which solves most driver problems for me in the past. I run the .exe in the file if it has one as well as use the update driver function in the device manager and I also attempt to use the install new hardware wizard. I've done my own searching and tried an array of different broadcom wireless drivers to no avail. The specs for my wireless card are Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wi-Fi Certified solution. I've also done searches for Invilink drivers and have found nothing thus far. Acer support just assumes I am installing the driver wrong because they just point me to the driver that clearly isn't working. I've found that others have had the same problem but I haven't seen any solutions online. The laptop does have a wifi on/off switch which makes me wonder if the driver can't detect the hardware if that switch somehow needs to be turned on since most of the failed installs report it didn't detect the hardware. I use to get a Wireless ON, OFF message when I hit the switch but now I get nothing. With none of the 20 or so drivers I tried has the wireless light lit up. Anyone got any ideas?
