where do we go from here? it seems that smartphone makers are trying to become personal computers and personal computers are trying to become smart phones.
is the Windows OS forever doomed do an idiotic 3 year olds idea of a computer? one that only runs proprietary apps and not traditional windows .exe programs and lacks a desktop and a taskbar? or will Microsoft come to their senses, throw that ******** in the garbage and bring back Windows 7

Hello, that is a good question amid all the noise of tablets as harbingers of doom to the traditional desktop PC. The growing mass market of tablet consumers who are happy to Facebook and twitter away all day via there smart phones and tablets will bring the end of the low to mid range desktops which the mass market is now replacing there old desktops and using tablets and smart phones instead.

However, the desktop is alive and well in what I like to call the mass affluent market consisting of those who enjoy the added depth and complexity of PC games that consoles, tablets and smart phones cannot achieve, and the professionals who need high powered desktops for design and rendering.

I agree with you on Windows 7 and I believe Microsoft does as well. They made it much easier for users to revert back to the tried and true desktop with there release of Windows 8.1.

@trixiebelle

lol. Im an old school windows user.

to me, 8x seems like a level of unnecessary extravagance.

if you've never ran Windows 7, you really should.

windows 7 was the peak of Microsoft's ingenuity IMO

Its GUI was jusy like xp or 2k and all of the old windows / dos commands still worked. all of the functionality of the old Windows NT system was still there. it work just as well as Windows 2k or 2003 server. the only thing that really irritated me about it, what is the volume control thing where it was impossible to adjust independent Channel levels for your sound card.

Did you not notice the giant square in Windows 8/8.1 that takes you to the desktop? It can run any program not just apps. Although I do think OS X is still better for my work (graphic design) I just got a laptop with Windows 8.1 and I thought it was difficult at first but now I like it better than XP. I never used vista or 7.

As for tablets I loathe the things. They are so stupid for anything besides games and facebook (which you can do on your phone).
