I was wondering, how good is this laptop?

http://www.frys.com/product/5948824?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I realize this Macbook Pro is fairly old, but is it still a good laptop compared to newer models? I can only really afford this one, and it seems to be the only Macbook that is in my price range (have to purchase it from Fry's). How would you compare it to something like an Asus Zenbook? or another Windows Laptop. I'd prefer a Macbook, but if some newer Windows laptops have far superior specs, I may consider taking that route. Or if there are any alternative Apple Laptops I might have missed in my budget?

So any suggestions? Thanks

Well if your looking for a Intel mac I'd say the price is right for that Macbook Pro. I personally am a little ugh with windows computers so my opinion may be bias. If your not too concerned with running new newest and best OS or Apps on your computer there are some older cheaper macs that I still love today, even with my Macbook. The Late 2005 Powerbook G4's were nice (Macbook Pro of their day). they can run Leopard (It is almost the same as Snow Leopard in every way). They Run around 250-300 and come in 12" 15" and 17". Or the iBook G4 was an alright computer and you can pick those up for around 200.00. It's all a matte of preference I think. I like Mac's because I don't have to worry viruses and I know I have a stable OS that won't crash as often. If you think Windows has superior specs then my friend you need to look around. Check out Linux Distros I.G. Ubuntu, Fedora. They can do things that windows will never even dream about doing. They can also run along side Mac OS X and WIndows for Duel-Booting.

All in all, I'd say get it. I have yet to go wrong with a Mac (except the fan issue I just posted on here). They are reliable and just fun to use.

Dual core processor is kinda shitty you'll have trouble playing any newer game

4gb of memory is nice but its older memory

250gb hdd is the Tinyest hdd you can buy on a new laptop Its upgradable but small to todays standards

Build in Graphics card is VERY nice for a laptop. Older card so it won't let you play anything high end but its rare for laptops to have nice graphics cards

999.00 cost. - NO!.

Final Summary. Decent computer. but for 1000$ you're getting HORRIBLY ripped off. I was expecting 150$ or so i wouldn't pay more than that for it. For 1000$ you can get yourself a i7 with a terabyte hdd and 8gb DDR3 haha.

SO my Final Judgement.

If it was 150$ Maybe.

If it was Windows. Maybe

Since both of which are a No i'd say you're an idiot for buying it.

Intel® 2nd Generation Core™ i7 > 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (1066MHz FSB)

It really isn't a good computer anymore. Almost all windows laptops have better specs for cheaper, as macs are hugely overpriced. If that is about your price range then this HP would be much better: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=High+performance&series_name=dv6tqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/High_performance/dv6tqe_series

Then you can also install OSX if you like it on that computer.

most windows laptops have far superior specs and are much cheaper, you should consider getting a pc. it amazes me how much money APPLE bilks out of people and they willingly pay more for inferior products,

I saw the word "Apple" and automatically knew it's a bad laptop.
