My grandparents want to buy a basic laptop from a high street store (not online). They will only be using it occasionally for access to the internet and a small amount of picture storage. Can anyone recommend a good basic one which isn't too expensive (under £300) ?

I know you said not online, but you should really look at ebay and in the newspaper for one. For £300 your not gonna get much, probably a netbook which has a small amount of solidstate memory and something like an intel atom processor.

Laptops depreciate in value so much, for £300 you would get a good 2nd hand one, or maybe a re-furbished one with a warrenty.

I brought my laptop for £900, it was re-furbished with a 3 year warrenty, the same one sold for £1500 on the dell website. And 2 years later its still going strong.

Argos sell a range of laptops. They start at around £220 and have offers if you want to buy the printer as well to print any pictures. They can look through the catalgoue at home then buy from the shop x

Hi if your looking to spend about £300 you will probably get a laptop with 1gb ram, this really isn't enough if it's running vista, if you can push to £350 you'll be able to get one with 2 or 3gb ram, its worth spending the extra bit of money, have a look in pc world, comet or currys, should be plenty of choice. Don't let them sell you extras tho such as anti virus software, there are plenty of free ones available online.
