Make sure first where from the burning coming ....down the battery or near to the c.p.u location....

if it's the battery contact your retail company or what ever....and DON'T use it more after...

if it's the place near to the c.p.u make sure that the fan works and not blocked and make sure the you putting your computer on some flat surface, not on you bed or some thing like that...

if it consisted call your company .

Yes it is normal because laptops tend to get hot after a while. But it is not good that it does that because you burning up inside of your comp.

To avoid it.

1.Place laptop on top of flat surface. This is because the fan to cool down the comp. is usually at bottom . If covered you can't circulate the air inside which is hot.

2.Don't use or leave laptop on for a really long time. (4-6 hours. varies on how much power being used up)

Sad to say, HP laptops have a horrendous service life when it comes to fans/heat sinks. Sometimes the part is covered by warranty; I'd take it back to where you bought it and ask if it's covered. If it is, get it replaced as soon as possible - a defective fan/heat sink will reduce the life of your laptop tremendously. And the next time you buy a laptop, buy a Toshiba! Or a Dell.

My laptop does this as well and i have done some research on it and found that it is completely normal. You may think your fan isnt working but it probably is, ust not very often. The manufacturer makes it this way to help save the battery life. Processors can get really hot without any damnage occuring.

That is not normal!!!!!!!! The burning sensation is from your power supply failing, your fans being blocked or not working correctly. Sit it aside and leave it off and alone for a while. Then after a WHILE turn it on again. If the problem persists, get it to the local computer repair shop.

It depends what programs are running, some such as MS screen savers "space or aquarium" take a lot of power thus heat.
