hi there my laptop suddnely went off saying no hard disk deteced so i was told my hard drive had gone so i have bought a new one which is saying NTLDR missing when turning on so i have tried re installing windows vista and when set up starts it still says no hard disk found any one have any ideas thanks

goto bios settings

integrated periferhals

sata mode config...make sure their all set on ide or else cds not boot up and also the other one

Since you have replaced the hard disc and still no hard disk is found. I recommend you return the new hard drive if you can, because your getting the same error with a new hard drive. Use your old one.

This could be a problem with the BIOS. Have you recently altered the BIOS settings? If you have, get into the BIOS and restore the default settings.

With a new hard disk on Vista you have to format by booting into dos from a USB key. Change the BIOS to set this as 1st boot device and format that way (not sure what Dos software you'll need). Then install Vista that way.

Sure this should point you in the right direction, if somewhat vaguely.
