I need help regarding my laptop?

I am planning on selling my Dell XPS L401X Laptop on Ebay, but I need help with a few things regarding Windows 7. I reinstalled it using the disc I got when I built my current computer but didn't use a product code and now it is saying that Windows may not be genuine. Is there any way to fix this, and would calling Microsoft get this fixed for me? I would really appreciate any somewhat accurate/helpful answer because I am looking to upgrade this computer and finding work has been pretty tough for me so I am not sure if I will be able to make any money any time soon.

Did you use the product key from the bottom of the laptop?? On the COA sticker?



Microsoft won't help you in regards to that. They will sell you another product key. If you're selling the latop, why not just run a factory restore on it?? What did the laptop come with? If it came with something other than Windows 7, and the COA sticker on the bottom shows XP or Vista, then XP or Vista is what you will need to install, using that product key.



You can certainly install Vista and 7 without a product key, but you only have a set number of days to activate it. If you don't activate it, it will show as non genuine.

You need to restore it using a recovery disk or one of the options when you start the laptop. If you're calling anyone call DELL. I've never had any luck talking to Microsoft. They use call centres on the other side of the world and you can't understand the people on the phone when you do finally get a hold of someone.

When yo use install/recovery disc from another computer it installs a illegal copy of Windows since each install has a one use license for install on one PC.

The cheapest way is to order the recovery disc set made for the laptop from Dell and install the original legal operating system using the original product key code to re-register the OS, cost from $25.00 to $50.00
