Yes it would be enough for school work using word or similar for the work. But if it requires any like video editing or other similar activities you would need more to do the work faster with less wear on your hard drive. Also after time your computer will slow done do to all the bloat that gets added during use, 8GB is a good compromise in all situations, fast when using simple programs and not too slow for intensive programs (but not gaming).

8gb would be better for games and 4gb for office stuff. I think 16gb might be to much though

4Gb should be enough, but more doesn't really hurt. 8Gb would be better but it's still quite a lot.

I suggest 12-16gb for home systems, more if a professional.
Why?
If you don't have enough ram, it uses your hard drive!!!! Much slower, and hard on your drive!
RAM is cheap. Destroying a hard drive i expensive and time consuming.

My custom desktop have 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3-2400. I use it for my own Engineering company that I have AutoCAD install.
My Dell Latitude Laptop have 4GB I only use it for traveling and vehicle tuning.
My spare Gateway Laptop only need a hard drive to be replace but I think this one might be 2GB but I have to verify it.
Not sure what ram is inside my wife Macbook Pro.

Depends what you are used to. But it will get the job done, maybe slower than you are used to

I think 4gb ram is enough for you.4gb ram can run windows 10 easily and you also play some good games like counter strike source, gta san andrease, need for speed most wanted etc.

Do not listen to ppl who say 4GB is more than enough these days. They are the kind of ppl who probably never use more than 2 tabs on chrome or run more than a handful of processes at a time. If you plan on doing anything more than what I have mentioned above, Get at least 8Gb or ideally 16 GB of memory. it may seem overkill now but in just a couple years of time, you'll feel much better with your investment looking back. I have a laptop with 12Gbs of memory and I constantly find myself having to close stuff to keep enough space to run any moderately intensive tasks like Creo etc. Even otherwise, my Usage is constantly 10Gbs with just some intense browsing and trust me you'll have to do that when researching something even moderately while studying.

hi there!
u just told about RAM and this RAM is not only which is important. U 4got to tell about complete configuration like processor, hard disk size and type, laptop brand.
Ok....let it go.
what i want to say is that laptop with 2 gb ram can work faster than 4gb ram laptop.
reason: ram is just a space for applications to do its calculations. processor do its calculations there.
but if hard disk speed is slow than even i7 processor with 16 gb ram is useless.
so go with hard disk which is as fast as these processor and ram. traditional harddisk can't compete. only performance booster is SSD (SOLID STATE HARD DISK).
YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE....YOU WILL FIND EVEN DUAL CORE AS FAST AS I5
THANKS.

Yes.... 4 gigs is adequate RAM for school only stuff............ It's also adequate for surfing the web.........
.
4 gigs is adequate for just about anything EXCEPT gaming, heavy program use, heavy video/movie watching, or anything ABOVE general computer use.....

4 GB RAM Enough Man For Simple School Tasking

You check that in Task Manager, open it up, look at the performance tab and leave it open as you do your normal stuff.
If it gets near 4 GB then more RAM would probably be good to get more, but if it doesn't there's no reason to get more. Extra RAM doesn't make a computer faster.

The current minimum "standard" is 8GB. The more the better. 16GB and above is a good choice. 4GB is, at this moment in time, rather ridiculous.

4GB is fine. Just don't install a whooping big anti virus program on it.
In Fact DON"T install any anti virus program. Windows 10 Already has a built in one, Windows Defender.
Programs like Norton take up a lot of RAM.

I think you should also keep your budget in mind during purchasing of electronic products. Higher RAM will result in higher operational speed.

You can probably get away with 4 GB. For school I would recommend 8 GB, but find out what model of the computer you're looking at. Then check with the manufacturer or with Crucial to see if it can be upgraded to 8 GB. Most computers that come with 4 GB can be upgraded to 8 GB. Get the 4 GB first and if you feel you need more then just add an extra 4 GB.

What kind of school stuff are you planning to do? Just normal Office stuff and some webbrowsing? Or something like video/music editing or computer programming/virtualization?
For basic office stuff and webbrowsing: 4GB is good enough.
When you are doing editing it's always safe to have RAM in the range of 8GB - 16GB depending on how heavy your projects are.
When you are programming around 8GB is enough. But some programmers use virtualization technologies and than 16GB is a safe option, if you want your virual machine to handle some heavier loads.

4GB RAM is more than enough for school work and projects. You won't need anymore and won't need to upgrade anything unless you aim to game, which you don't.

only just about. these days a pc noticably speeds up when it gets 8gb ram. and an antivirus noticably slows down with about less than 3gb of ram. so 4gb is only just enough for NOW. in 2 yrs time its gonna be to little. get 8gb if you can and remember on some 4gb devices, 4gb is the MAX allowed that you can fit. so at least get one that CAN take another 4gb so one with 2 slots and a single 4gb fitted at the moment with one slot spare for another one later.

You need to find out what laptop it is. You need to see if it has support for 8 GB. Most of the time the laptop is built for 4GB if it has 4GB by default. Just check and see what type of laptop it is.
