Depends on preference and opinion.

Notebooks have better performance, Netbooks are rather small and are cheap.

A note book or lap top is far better than any net book.

Net Books have slow processor, no CD/DVD drive and more. Net book is meant for basic work, surfing the net, e-mail.

Most of these people probably haven't actually used a netbook. A netbook is usually categorized as a small, cheap, and low power laptop (mini laptop) that usually has a 7-10" screen and no optical (CD/DVD) drive. While it is true that they aren't as powerful as bigger laptops or desktops, netbooks are capable of a lot more than they're given credit for. Netbooks (even older ones) can easily run Windows, browse the Internet, watch videos (even online), play music, run office software, give presentations, take notes, etc. The only thing you can't really do on a netbook is play modern games or do intense video processing/extreme photo editing. It all depends on what you want. A netbook will be a lot better if you want a portable computer to travel with while a laptop (notebook) is better for being an in-between, it can do more performance applications but isn't as portable. One combination that many people choose is a desktop-netbook setup. Buy a desktop (which are cheaper than laptops for better performance) for all the powerful programs that a netbook can't run, and buy a cheap netbook for on the go.

As for netbooks lacking an optical drive, it really isn't a big deal. I rarely ever use the optical drive on my desktop as it is, all my music is downloaded and I can rip my DVD's on my desktop and then copy them to my netbook to play on the go. I installed the operating system using a flash drive and I use Virtual Clone Drive to mount CD images to install software (if you have a CD to install, rip the CD to an ISO file using a desktop/laptop and ImgBurn, copy the ISO file to the netbook, and mount with Virtual Clone Drive, works great and you don't have to buy an external CD drive).

Depends on what you're using it for.

Out and about - web browsing, office applications, email, chat. You could go with a netbook, or a notebook.

Netbooks are cheaper, and smaller if that matters. Notebooks are larger, but are more capable with programs and applications.

I personally bring my netbook with me places as it is less expensive and easily to transport, and I like to have my laptop with me when I'm at home or stationary elsewhere.

In reality one isn't necessarily better than the other because they have different functions.A netbook is a companion device that is great for keeping your bag nice and light while you travel but still allow most of the functionality of a regular laptop (among other things), while notebooks have more storage space and are nice for more complex tasks like gaming and creating large documents.

It just depends on the user needs and wants.

Depends on what the customer is looking for.

to be honest, this is pretty straightforward

A NOTEBOOK - is more of an all-rounder, it's like having a great computer with TONS of possibilities, as it usually provides for a wide variety of requirements, in terms of processor power etc. Hence you could play games [ relatively would work good], watch movies, do music and video editing, programming, graphic simulations, word processing. In other words, almost everything and anything, that you would expect a regular computer to do, and it is powerful enough. It's also the closest thing to a portable "desktop". talk about an oxymoron... Like a car

A NETBOOK - is like a less powerful portable computer. You can run too many exhaustive/demanding programs, but what it doesn't make up in power, it provides in other aspects, such as price and weight. They're generally lighter, albeit smaller, and WAYYY cheaper than notebooks. Thus if you're not much of a computer user, or a gamer, or a mad scientist attempting some crazy work, then a netbook is what you should be going for. Plus, nowadays netbooks are pretty nice, with slick designs, easy to carry, and you shouldn't really underestimate the processor power as these can now rival with their notebook counterparts. Hence it should be a good and reliable computer for the regular user, meeting just the basic requirements.

SO TO SUM IT UP:

GAMERS/ people who think 4GB RAM is strict minimum RAM legally allowed = stick with notebooks

Others = netbook is the way to go ...

:D... it doesn't get any more simpler than that...

Thank You, Good Night.

and oh yeah... stay away from macs... They're Mac's for God's sake...

It depends on what you want. Do you want performance but at the cost of portability or do you want portability at the cost of performance i.e. if you want to go through large document or play graphic intensive games, get a notebook but if you want to surf the web do a little work on word some other things that don't require a lot of power get a netbook plus netbooks are usually cheaper then notebooks. and they suite most type of work.
2010-03-09 19:49:13 UTC
notebooks are better. netbooks are for people who only use their laptop to check their email. netbooks are very small and portable but they aren't very good as a computer.

Netbooks are devices designed purposely for the Internet, to communicate, learn, and view information. Notebooks are more multiple-purpose computers in a form factor of about ten inches and up. Notebooks can create content and handle heavy multi-tasking loads with many applications running at once.

Notebooks, like Netbooks, are portable, but some are becoming increasingly less so (the 17-inchers) some more so (the ultra-thins), and users of notebooks tend to pack them away in bags with all sorts of accessories before moving anywhere beyond the office or home. Although a few notebooks are able to connect to the Internet via cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, being “locked” to a carrier is not widely considered an advantage. Thus notebook users often invest in wireless modems that are external.

A netbook is simply a smaller notebook, that's literally the definition of a netbook. So what happens is, while the netbook is smaller they can't really use the same components they would use for a notebook (because they are too big) so what they do is put lower quality components, which causes the netbook to be cheaper but at the same time have a lower performance. To give you an idea, if you bought your PC around 7 years ago, it's probably running better than a netbook and I'm serious about this. Personally, I would go with the notebook, the netbook is not that much smaller and the notebook is a lot better when it comes to the whole performance issue.

Netbooks are indeed smaller than notebooks; we usually say that a netbook can have a screen up to 10 inches from corner to corner. Netbooks are cheap and have relatively slow processors, but this is because they are designed for more basic tasks.

You'll also find that netbooks don't have optical drives. They sometimes have Solid State Drives (SSDs) instead of Hard Disk Drives, which are lower capacity but have no moving parts and should, in theory, increase battery life and speed. The last difference is that most netbooks can run either Linux or Windows XP.

Some people look at notebooks and netbooks and think "Why should I buy a device with a 9 inch screen, slow processor, no optical drive for $500, when I can buy a full-featured notebook for the same amount?". The difference is convenience and speed. A netbook is more convenient because it is generally more resistent to the elements, it's lighter, and it usually has a lighweight operating system. The processor itself isn't as powerful, but there's much less processing that needs to be done with Windows XP or Linux in order to be usable.

Netbooks these days come with one of three processors:

1. Intel Atom. Special low-power processor, which you will see in most netbooks.

2. VIA. Another low-power processor by a chip manufacturer who specializes in this stuff. VIA actually has a reference design for netbooks, and a lot of VIA-based netbooks use this exact design. (the Everex Cloudbook and the Astone UMPC are two examples).

3. Intel Celeron M. Not a good idea - it's just a standard cheap notebook processor.

If you're just looking for a portable computer to take along with you on your travels, to check your e-mail, chat on Skype, watch some Youtube videos, write letters, then a netbook is what you want. If you're going to do intensive image editing, multimedia authoring, gaming etc then a notebook is more suited to your needs. A netbook can do those sorts of tasks too, but more slowly. Heck, even a notebook isn't really appropriate for these sort of things.
2010-04-10 19:41:13 UTC
1st, let's compare the screen size. With notebook screen size normally hovers around 14.1 to 15.4 inch, you can have a good movie viewing pleasure and don't have to squint your eyes just to see some text. With screen size 12 inch and lower, you might have a hard time typing documents in your netbook.

2nd, the processor. It is a very important part or consideration because it process the website content. The faster the processor, the faster the page loads. If you normally surf around the YouTube (which is heavy in javascript and flash) then you will know that loading that website takes longer than sites such as wikipedia or forums. With a slow processor, you browser might suddenly hangs if you opened too much tabs. The netbook cpu can't even handle 1080p movie and it will shutter all the way till the end.

3rd, the graphic card. If your primary concern is playing games, you can skip the netbook altogether as their graphic are really really lame. Some claim that they install World of Warcraft inside their netbook, but with lame graphic card and small screen, how are you ever gonna enjoy playing that game. On the other hand, notebook have better graphic card than netbook even in the low-end section. They can handle World of Warcraft and other older games easily without breaking a sweat literally.

4th, the weight. This is where the netbook really shines. With their low weight (and small screen), they are truly fit the definition of portability. Thier weight are almost half of the notebook weight, which is a good thing if you're not into bodybuilding. Coupled with their power adapter, the max weight might be only 1.5kg.

In the end, it all boils down to you. Which one you prefer the most. If you like to play games or watch movies, notebook is the way to go. If you surf the web more often and type short documents, netbook is you choice. Be warned that netbook keyboard is really small and not suitable for long-term typing.

It depends on what you want to do with it. Typically Netbooks do not have an optical(CD/DVD) drive. few accept more ram than 1 gig, and the screen is small, usually 10 inches or so. Laptops generally have 2-4 gigs of ram, and are usually upgradable to more ram easily, have larger screens, some as big as 17 inches. Most have or will accept a CD/DVD drive and are better equipped for more complex work. Netbooks are just that. Built mostly for connecting to and surfing the internet. Both will handle music and picture files well, and netbooks are often faster than laptops, but have a smaller hard drive. I'm a graphic artist and photographer. A netbook would limit me too much, so I prefer a laptop, or Notebook to a netbook. if all you want to do is surf the internet, and not use it for more intense operations then you'd probably want a netbook, as they are usually a little cheaper than notebooks, starting in the neighborhood of $300, while a notebook is likely to start at around $500, but with double the hard drive space and ram.
2010-04-09 11:58:27 UTC
It depends on your preference. A notebook is bigger than a netbook and has more memory and processing memory. However, the netbook may be smaller and compact, but the netbook has a slow processing speed and does not include certain programs including games as well as other features you may find with the notebook. With the notebook, you can download games and the processing speed will be better than the netbook. If you just want to play games as well as download alot of information, the notebook is the way to go. However, if you just want to write and look up information online without playing games, the netbook is the way to go, especially when going to college or living in the dorm rooms.

Well, that completely depends on you.

Notebooks are more versatile, they are generally faster and have more expansion options. This would be what you would get if you want a desktop replacement. Something you can use around the house but still take with you if necessary.

A netbook is designed to be even more portable than a laptop. They are obviously smaller, and thus are going to have slower CPU's and less data storage than a laptop/notebook. They often do not have optical (CD/DVD) drives and will come loaded with Windows 7 starter, which has some limitations.

But, they do have the option of 3g internet, meaning that you can get internet pretty much anywhere you get a wireless signal. As opposed to a laptop/notebook where you are limited to areas that have Wifi signals unless you get a card from your cell phone provider.

Netbooks are an underpowered computer in a notebook form factor. Netbooks are designed for basic internet access only. They are built to surf the web and get e-mail, but if you wish to do any type of computing work, i.e., spreadsheets, gaming, databases, etc., you will need a full notebook. Netbooks are built with the new Intel Atom processor which is a really low power cpu that is designed to extend battery life by minimizing performance. A true netbook will come with Windows XP installed because it is not powerful enough to run Vista. If you are just looking for something small and lightweight but with enough power to be a true computer, you might want to look at something like the HP 2133 Mini-note PC or a Samsung Q1 Ultra Mobile PC which uses a tablet PC form factor.

There's no real perfect answer to this. But what I can say is, it's all about what you're using it for.

For people that aren't going to be doing much besides word processing, web browsing, perhaps video conferences (depending on the netbook's hardware) and other 'simple' tasks, a netbook will be the best option - usually they're more inexpensive, have good battery life, and are smaller to make them easier to carry around without much hassle.

For people that need the full functionality of a desktop computer in a portable form, e.g. for playing games, photo editing, and doing a lot of multitasking, the better choice is a full notebook, one with a larger, vivid screen, plenty of RAM, a good processor suited for the things you do, and a powerful graphics card. They often cost more, and can't quite give the same performance of a desktop at the same price, but when a stationary computer isn't an option, a regular laptop is the best way to go.
2016-03-19 06:52:13 UTC
Usually it's better to buy online because you don't pay sales tax (but this is not always true). Also you don't have to deal with pushy sales people trying to up sell you things you don't need and extended warranties. Netbooks are made specifically for surfing the Internet and not much more. They may be able to run some programs (like word processing and spreadsheets) but they're not intended to be used as your main computer. They have low-end processors and not very much RAM. Plus they don't have CD/DVD drives on them (which are becoming less and less necessary now anyway). A notebook/laptop of course gives you full computer functionality. So if you have certain processor-intense programs like photo/video/sound editing or 3D drawing, it's the better choice. Even a low-end notebook/laptop will give you more functionality than a high end netbook and the price difference won't be that much.

You can always download a movie to a flash or thumb drive and use your netbook.

I have both.

Both have features that are nice. I like a bigger screen to watch movies . You do get used to the smaller netbook keyboard. I preferred my laptop to my netbook for awhile but since my laptop has a shorter battery life, I have become accustomed to my netbook.I depends on what you plan to use yours for. If you do photoshopping or gaming, a notebook would probably be better for you.

It depends on the laptop but I read recently the average life is only two years of a notebook. It has been true of my Wal Mart notebook and I am not that hard on my electronics. I had problems with the battery right away and that is costly to replace when you can get a netbook for a few hundred. I would check consumer reports on the model and it's stability first. Good luck.

The usage style will determine your choice. The reason that you want to utilize the device is crucial for the right acquisition. If you wish to play computer games or computer programs (MATLAB, AUTOCAD...etc) that require much performance and disk capacity then notebook is better.

If a person only needs to use internet, Office programs (Word, Excel...vs) and similar things like these, then netbook is logical.

Also screen size is deterministic for choice. If you wish to watch videos and work on photos, than larger screen size is needed that lead you to notebook which is at least 15 inches screen while netbooks has up to 10 inches screen.

One more advantage of netbook is lower weight and price.

depends how old you are, and how much money you have. In general, most people prefer notebooks, but if you're like 12, which i don't think you are, and you just want a little, cheap laptop or something go for a netbook. But i think you should probably be looking out for good deals on notebooks rather than netbooks-it really depends who you are and what you're going to use it for etc

In my own opinion, a notebook/laptop.

A netbook has a small hard drive, usually no CD drive, and they have crap processors in them. If you're just going to use it for basic web surfing, low-end on-line games and you're low on cash they will work. A real downfall is no CD drive, you have to download everything from the internet to install things, and if your computer crashes then you have to go to the hassle of trying to find your product keys or seeing if the company will let you download it again without charging. The only way around that is to use a portable cd/dvd drive. Some of them you can partition the drive to be able to reinstall Windows on it.

I worked on a netbook recently that crashed, I had previously set up a partition on it so that windows could be reinstalled on it if something went wrong. However, the computer became infected with a virus, the virus was in the partition so that wasn't an option. I had to connect a portable drive to it, to reinstall windows on it.

It wasn't a big problem for me since I knew how to fix it, however to the average person who doesn't work in information technology, they don't know how to do that.

A notebook/laptop: Has a bigger hard drive, a cd drive, and can be configured just about anyway you want it. They can work just as good for gaming as a desktop if they have the right processor, enough memory, etc. They are easier to service as well.

The only "pro" I've found for a netbook is the size of them, some people don't like the size of a normal notebook/laptop.

Depends on what you need from one. A notebook will be a powerhouse, like a portable desktop, and a netbook is smaller and cheaper, like a notepad to write stuff on. If you think you can get by with less memory and no optical drive, and only plan to use it for writing things and going on the internet, then a netbook would probably be best. If this is something you plan to churn out creative work from, like movies or photo albums, or you do weekly powerpoint presentations for your career, then notebook would be the way to go.

What was the purpose of laptops when they first sprung up long ago? Simple - to make our every day computing needs portable providing our business and leisure tools and resources directly in our lap wherever we go. The name "laptop" is kind of obsolete now with everyone calling them notebooks. The reason is because they are simply smaller in size and weight. They evolved. And much like these devices, we evolved too.

We live in a crazy portable world these days. With blackberry's, iPhones, notebooks, aircards, you name it; there are so many ways of connecting with the world and so many different degrees to do it. The netbook is just the next thing out there. We've gone with a large portable screen. We've gone with an extremely tiny portable screen. Now it's time to merge the advantages of both in some kind of middle ground.

SIZE

Obviously you notice this difference but it can be a huge deal. With a difference in size comes a difference in weight. The average notebook is about 6 pounds whereas the average netbook is about 2.5 pounds. That can be a huge difference especially if you tend to travel a lot with your computer.

CAPABILITIES

I don't intend on being too technical here. But for a quick video overview , click here.

Many ask if the capabilities between the two differ at all. To an extent there is. The biggest difference that, at first awareness, draws people away from a netbook is the lack of an optical disk drive. "What's the point of it if it doesn't have one?!" This is a big frequent question to newbies of the trade. But think about it - On a daily use of checking emails, paying bills, contacting friends and family how often do you actually use your disk drive?

It's an occasional use. Plus, it's not like you're completely out of luck. You can always plug in an external disk drive if you absolutely needed to. The upside is programs, such as the antivirus that Best Buy offers for your netbook, offer an alternative to the disk that way you can be just as protected as you'd be with a notebook.

Notebook processors are going to be much stronger than netbook processors, but that shouldn't be a total shock. This is why netbooks have lately been installed with Windows XP rather than the PC resource consuming Windows Vista. The funny thing is that's sometimes a selling point for the Vista haters out there.

Wireless connectivity works the same for both units. While the technical type of wireless adapter may vary you will still be able to connect anywhere that has a wireless hotspot of wifi connectivity.

The bottom line though: Netbooks are more simplified units, typically used primarily for general internet browsing, email and simple office use such as writing up a Microsoft Word document of Excel spreadsheet. To many people, that's all they really look for in a computer anyway.

BATTERY LIFE

Ooh, this is another big deciding factor for many people when picking between the two. Generally, netbooks are designed with a longer battery run time but it's not always the case. You'll find notebooks with 2-3 hour batteries and you'll find others with 7 hour batteries. That goes for the same with netbooks. It all really depends on the model you're looking at.

PRICE

With no surprise, this will vary depending on the model and features but generally netbooks will be cheaper than notebooks. That has to do with size but more importantly the features and capabilities the pc offers. The average netbook will range between $300 - $500 all depending on what it offers.

SO WHAT WILL IT BE?

Which type of computer works best for you? A notebook? A netbook? Heck, why not both? You can easily use your notebook at home to make everything and your netbook on the go simply to share it and keep up with it.

A netbook is simply another option that Best Buy provides for you. Their popularity wouldn't be growing if there was something of use for it.

It all depends on what you want to use it for.

If your main use is on the go surfing the web than a netbook would be a great option. It is small and portable. They usually don't have an CD Rom/DVD Drives but you can always get an External one that connects through a USB port if needed.

If you want something portable but also want the use of playing DVD's and CD roms than it would be preferable to go for a notebook, slightly larger but usually they come with a combo DVD/CD Drive allowing you to have this extra feature built in.

Each has it positives and negatives, so sit back and think exactly what you want out of it, then go to a computer/electronic's store and get some advice. They will be able to point you in the right direction for what your needs are.

Depends on what you are using the system for. Notebooks are great as a desktop replacement. Netbooks however are great if you are traveling and need something light and dependable.

I personally love notebooks, but I know other users who love netbooks.

If you're going for a good computer go with a notebook. Netbooks are over rated only because companies want you to buy their new product. Netbooks have intel atom inside which is as slow as you can get, so a notebook would be faster. The high end junk they cram on the netbooks completely slow up and eat up space on them.
2010-03-17 01:28:32 UTC
Well, it depends on your needs.

A notebook is best if your doing more than Messenger, Emails and Web. A notebook is good of your watching HD movies, editing music and movies, things like that. A notebook it most of the time bigger, more powerful and have an Optical Drive.

A netbook is good if your on the move alot, a netbook preforms the basics, like Messanger, Web, Emails etc. Netbooks are cheaper, thinner in some cases and lighter.

All depends on what you want to do with it. Netbooks are great for travelling because they're small and lightweight but they lack optical drives. Notebooks are great if you're playing games, watching movies and they're also relatively easy to move around depending on the size. They perform a lot better than most netbooks but aren't the greatest for travel unless you get a 12-14 inch laptop.

Good: Most of these tiny books weigh between 2 and 3 pounds, lightening the load considerably, and also fitting easily in your backpack, briefcase or purse. Their 7-to-10-inch screens are fine for everyday tasks like e-mail and simple Web browsing.

Bad: If you have large hands, you might feel awfully cramped by the keyboards of these small machines, ranging from 80 to 95% of a full-size laptop keyboard. And while you can get away with small screens for simple tasks, if you every try to do real work, with multiple apps and windows open simultaneously, on a netbook, things will start to feel cramped pretty fast.

Good: Web browsing, e-mail checking, writing, talking on Skype: these are all ideal uses for netbooks, storing your data "in the cloud" and getting things done without breaking your back lugging around an anvil-like laptop. If you need more storage, you can usually plug in a thumb drive or flash memory. And what about CDs or DVDs? They are so last century.

Bad: Netbooks are underpowered. If you want to edit pictures using Photoshop, a netbook's Intel Atom processor is way too lame to get anything done quickly. The lack of optical storage, even if you can plug in an external unit, is also a dealbreaker for some users.

What’s better – a notebook or a netbook?

A netbook is specifically made for internet web surfing, but notebooks are made for almost anything, I would suggest going for a cheap notebook, or a really good netbook.

It all depends what you are using it for, netbooks are smaller than notebooks but have less of everything in every sense and are meant to be used for basic things like web browsing and word processing. Notebooks on the other hand are slightly bigger and having more processing power, memory and can be used for larger variety but not significant variety. I cannot determine what is best for you, if you had added a description I would be better able to help you determine what would best suit your wants and needs.

Depends on what you want to use it for. A better netbook would cost just a few bucks less than notebook, so I would prefer a notebook

Easily a notebook is better. Netbook only if your using it for low performance processes and for extra portability. Overall a notebook is a better buy.Portability in not much of an issue with a laptop backpack.

It depends what you need the computer to do - but I prefer a notebook hands down.

Netbook: for surfing the web, checking email, running small applications like calculator or scheduler/calendar. The tiny size means you can easily carry it in a purse or backpack pocket but it is impractical for note taking in a business meeting or college setting. I like the portability of the netbook but for the money I'd rather have a more useful Blackberry. At least I can make phone calls on that.

Notebook: everything a desktop PC can do but portable. I greatly prefer notebooks. Although they are difficult to upgrade (making them less desirable to us gamers) they are perfect for the artist/musician/librarian/accountant/professional/amateur on the go. I love the freedom of a wireless notebook. I can check my email, catch up on the social networking sites, and read today's news on the porch. Then I can take it to the kitchen and have my recipes displayed. Then I take it to the living room and use it like a DVR to catch all my favorite shows while I'm out playing with the kids. Then when the kids are tucked in for the night I can load up WoW or chill with some Zuma.

Depends what you are looking to get out of it.

Netbooks are cheap and great for surfing the web anywhere, but do not have a disk drive and are limited by their range of options.

Notebooks are offered in almost any style- you can most certainly find a notebook that will meet your needs.

Check out Tablet notebooks, too!

In the end, it all boils down to you. Which one you prefer the most. If you like to play games or watch movies, notebook is the way to go. If you surf the web more often and type short documents, netbook is you choice. Be warned that netbook keyboard is really small and not suitable for long-term typing.

A netbook is designed to be even more portable than a laptop. They are obviously smaller, and thus are going to have slower CPU's and less data storage than a laptop/notebook. They often do not have optical (CD/DVD) drives and will come loaded with Windows 7 starter, which has some limitations.

Its really a matter of personal preference. I have a notebook, but my wife uses a netbook. I use mine a lot more that she does, and frankly I hate the small screen and keyboard let alone that it has no cd drive.

A netbook is easy to travel with though.

a notebook is better than a net book. i have a notebook and it is awesome. i tried out one of those net books and it was too small, no cd/dvd drive, and people made fun of me. but now that i have a notebook, people respect me, ask me about it, and i can watch all of my movies on it. its performance was better but the battery lasted longer on the netbook. it is up to the person using it, like for kids, they can use a netbook if they wanted to feel like they were big kids, but i think no grown up would really like to use a netbook. its just weak.

A notebook. A netbook is just a fancy name for a really low spec laptop so the big computer companies can sell them to the lower end of the market.

ich i don't think you are, and you just want a little, cheap laptop or something go for a netbook. But i think you should probably be looking out for good deals on notebooks rather than netbooks-it really depends who you are and what you're going to use

I love the netbook for when I am on campus. It makes my backpack so much lighter while I am going from class to class. I keep my notebook in my dorm to store the majority of my school work on, but I always have my netbook on hand for quick research and finishing Mastering Chemistry and Mastering Physics.
2010-04-11 09:37:05 UTC
A notebook is good if you have to take notes or write stuff down. A netbook is good if you want to use the internet or other programs.
2010-04-11 09:34:47 UTC
I have a notebook so I'd stick with notebooks, I think net-books are ok but they don't have a cd drive and plus they are small so the screens not that big I think net-books are just used to carry around better then notebooks, they are more smaller and portable and for emailing and the internet I'm always watching DVDs on my computer, so I'd go with notebooks.
2010-04-10 13:00:35 UTC
Better in terms of what?

My laptop is better for work because it is better at running Word, Excel, and handling big graphics files, and has a larger screen.

My kids have a sweet netbook that I upgraded to 3 gigs of RAM that can easily handle Word while they work on a paper, and have Firefox open and iTunes running. It's got a 10 inch widescreen monitor, and it is ultra-light and the battery life is outstanding-- nearly 10 hours. It has no dvd drive because it is so small, but it is easy to download a lot of content anyway, or put content on a thumb drive, so it is no big deal.

If you want to run the latest games, you'll need a higher end laptop. If you want something small and ultra-portable for surfing and normal usage, go with a cheap netbook and upgrade the RAM.
2010-04-08 16:55:37 UTC
Depends what you are using it for. If you just are using the Internet on it or my friend likes to take notes in college a net book is better. If you want to play games or have a bunch of stuff you need on it a notebook is better. However personally I prefer notebooks. You can get a very nice one that is small. They are more expensive but you can do everything on them.

A netbook....once they finally figure out a key feature needed in net-books is swap-able graphics cards that can handle current (at least casual) 3D games at 30FPS+ and swap-able hard drives.

The pathetic Intel Extreme Graphics card on my girlfriend's Net-book has enough trouble with 3+ year old games like Test Drive Unlimited (which don't need more than 2GB of DDR2 ram to run well and often do fine with 1GB some long as under a good graphics card). If it weren't for that, I'd have my own Net-book.

Non-upgradable disk space, RAM, and video cards cause headaches. Ideally IMVHO you should be able to buy a net-book almost so cheaply as you can, but have enough upgradable connections and device "bays" so you can upgrade it to act like a notebook in many ways if you choose.

It really depends on what you are going to use your computer on.

A notebook is more powerful in terms of programs it can run but it is also

bulkier and much more difficult to carry

A netbook is used primarily for surfing the internet so its capabilities in terms of

what software it can run is limited. Its upside is the fact that it is really very handy

All the netbook's I looked at seemed to be Atom CPU based and weren't able to meet the demands, quite surprising as my PDA has no problem in combining playing music and games and email simultaneously. i like my netbook the best, its small and i can take it anywhere. the screen size and keyboard arnt bad at all and it has 160 gigs of memory and 1 gig or ram so im happy with it. there's no cd drive but i just use torrents and downloads which are free so really im saving money on the actual computer which was 190$ and software which would be quite the fair amount (not to mention games) also it has a high def. camera and and built in mic with good quality speakers and can be plugged into another monitor, projector, or tv so theres no worry for screens. and to make up for the lack of cd drive it has 3 usb ports. it has 2-4 hour battery life depending on how many things you are running and has quite a good wi-fi connection actually... not to mention that now days you can buy a hotspot on a monthly plan

It all depends on what you are doing with it.

A netbook has a tiny harddrive and processor, but a laptop can be bulky and uncomfortable to carry around. Netbooks are generally only for people who plan on using them for only one thing, net surfing. A laptop is more multi-functional than a netbook, but a lot more expensive.

Basically, a netbook is to a laptop what a laptop is to a desktop. Its a matter of sacrificing capability for portability.

Hi,

There is difference between notebook and netbook you can choose according to your comfortability -

1. Notebook, or laptop, is a portable computer that normally have :

* Screen size : 12 Inch and up

* Processor : Intel Pentium Dual-Core,Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion X2

* Graphics : Integrated or External Graphic Card, from Intel GMA x3100 to AMD Mobility HD 3870X2

* Weight : 1.9kg and up

2. Netbook, a smaller variant of notebook, 1st poineered by Asus with their release of Asus Eee PC 700,and now laptop companies such as Acer and MSI released their own netbooks (Acer aspire one and MSI wind respectively), have :

* Screen size : 12 Inch max

* Processor : VIA C7 1.2GHz, Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or AMD Geode 800MHz

* Graphics : Integrated Graphic Card, mostly Intel GMA 900 or 950

* Weight : 1.1kg and below

Thanks

Notebooks are more multiple-purpose computers in a form factor of about ten inches and up. Notebooks can create content and handle heavy multi-tasking loads with many applications running at once. They can view, create, and edit high-definition video content and run intensive programs like computer aided engineering and mathematical modeling.

Netbooks are devices designed purposely for the Internet, to communicate, learn, and view information. They have in common a compact form factor of seven to ten inches, are light-weight, feature comparatively longer battery life than notebooks, and are less dependent on a battery charger during the day. They are easily portable and can be easily moved from one place to another place. They may contain more than one wireless method to connect to the Internet.

My choice is Notebook
2014-11-19 18:12:52 UTC
A netbook is good if your on the move alot, a netbook preforms the basics, like Messanger, Web, Emails etc. Netbooks are cheaper, thinner in some cases and lighter.

Notebook...netbooks are only for browsing the Internet. They usually don't come with enough memory to run anything other than Internet Explorer and WordPad.
2010-04-07 05:22:18 UTC
If you want to use it for internet browsing, and things like using Word programmes to type things, a Netbook is probably better.

However, if you want to play games either on the internet or installed disk ones, or to save lots of files, a Notebook is better.

Notebook:

A general purpose mobile computer. It has a keyboard (which may include a numberpad on larger models), and is generally equipped with a screen 13"-18" in size. There are many different uses for notebooks, including basic typing/internet uses, video/audio editing, CAD, and gaming. They can be pretty light and also very heavy, with a wide range of battery lives (~3 hours average I'd say). They also can be quite expensive, and sometimes run hot.

Netbook:

A small mobile computer, generally with a less-than full size keyboard. Screens are generally 12" or less. They are equipped with low-power CPUs and other hardware only designed to be used to access the internet/do basic computing tasks on-the-go. They are very cheap (generally less than $400) compared to their bigger brethren, and usually have high battery lives (~5 hours average, I'd say).

Now you decide!

One of the things that drive me crazy about netbooks is they don't have CD-ROMs. You can always buy an external one, but then that's another thing to carry around. You also can't upgrade hardware components like the HD, RAM, graphics card, or processor. I'd have to lean towards a notebook.

It all depends on your use. I have both and use them differently. I like my Emachine EM250 (same as Acre Aspire One) for its size and portability. I can take it with me to lunch or just to get out of the office and use wifi to surf the net and do some work or even play a few games. It is not as fast as my notebook, but with Win 7 Home Premium and 2GB ram and 250GB hard-drive it seems to handle anything I need it too. I can get about 3 hours on the current battery, a 3 cell, and plan on upgrading that soon. I have been very impressed with the versatility of this little machine.

?
2010-04-09 13:19:07 UTC
It depends on your needs and what limitations and restrictions you are willing to live with.

Notebooks are larger and typically faster so that means that you can see more content on the screen at once, play games with more graphical detail (if configured with a good enough graphic card), serve as a full desktop replacement (if configured good enough)

Netbooks are small, lightweight, and mobile. Good for on the go e-mail/internet browsing.
2010-04-09 09:18:20 UTC
It depends on your purpose ultimately. I currently use a netbook as i had planned on travelling and needed to keep udated on stuff on the net. For portability it's great i have a small shoulder bag which accommodates everything, power supply, spare hard drives, a kit of accessories, and even a mousepad! I hardly notice it's there.

For creating websites or writing large doccuments, it's a bit of a pain in the neck though, having to keep scrolling u and down and even then i don't get the true idea of appearance until working on another pc. So ultimately it depends on your purpose.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes I just want a web machine with minimal "stuff" on it, turn on, power up quick, get on line, do email, or watch my sporting events.

Laptop is an office away from the office, if I want to do real work aside from email I use a laptop, it has all that crap on it, boots slow, etc...

Really, the two should be combined, the netbook will go away, what I truly want is a tablet with full touch and browser support, it would suit my world well.

It depends.

If you want to carry a computer with you, for now and then access Internet, check emails, etc, then a netbook is the solution. It is smaller and less weight than a regular notebook. A notebook even being small, at the end of the day you will feel the pain to carry it up and down the street.

I for one choose to have desktops at home and office, and carry a netbook, "just in case".

it's hard to find a good netbook 'cause you need to know if they will run fast and stuff. but this one is my choice.

anyways, a notebook is faster than a netbook, usually they are powered by core2 duo. netbooks are powered by atom. and you get a lot memory on notebooks too. and also bigger hard drives. but if you want something easier to bring, i'd get a netbook. but if your ok to carry heavier stop that packs with power, then get a notebook.

it only depends on your need. if you just want something that you wanna use to go online while on the road, a netbook is fine, plus it's cheaper. if you want something that you wanna use as alternative for your desktop computer, then get a notebook.

NoteBook all the way. Optical drive, bigger HDD, more ram. You can even buy gaming notebooks...can't get a gaming netbook. Bigger screen and depending on make/ model they even weigh about the same, but he notebook always is faster. They even cost about the same a basic notebook like a Toshiba at best buy for everyday use is about $450 the netbooks are about the same but with far less ram, HDD space and smaller screens, slower processors. Why buy netbook. I have both and I still tote my Toshiba 15.4" notebook because it just is way more capable than my little hp netbook. The netbook is nice but I have been on trips where a DVD video would have been nice, but my netbook can't play the movie. It is great for downloads, and smaller applications but the small screen size kinda gets on my nerves. It's too small for video watching. the Notebook however has better battery life. (in power saver mode) and still out performs the netbook not in power saver mode. The netbook was given to me as a gift, and it is a stationary always downloading platform now. (plugged in USB External HDD) I tote my Toshiba Notebook!
2014-07-12 01:19:32 UTC
Netbooks are cheaper, and smaller if that matters. Notebooks are larger, but are more capable with programs and applications.
2010-05-06 16:33:30 UTC
As steve jobs has already said, netbooks are slow, crappy, and useless. they have the limitations of both a laptop and smartphone. tablet computers all the way, but not the ipad way over hyped. the best choice for notebook is macbook pro with new Intel Core Processor

2010-04-09 08:29:11 UTC
Net books are great for college students that take notes in class. They have a battery life that lasts almost triple that of most note books. If it's mostly just word processing you are going to be doing, go for the net book. Every other category the notebook wins

I like a notebook a lot more.

Works better.

2010-04-08 04:35:21 UTC
netbook usually has a bigger battery life they are smaller and cheaper so they are good to use outdoor but they don´t have internal optical drive(but you can buy one external drive)

notebook is more powerful(some of them are powerful enough to be used in hardcore games)they have a optical drive. but they are bigger and heavier so they are not as great to use outdoor and the battery usually doest last so much.

So basically buy a net book to spend a lot of time outdoor doing things like working in the Microsoft office or INTERNET.

Buy a notebook to do lots of different stuff(from office to gaming) indoors or few time outdoor.

You can get the best of both in one computer but you will have to spent LOTS OF MONEY

I would go for the notebook because they are faster and have wider screen so it dosent affect my eyesight and computer speed as much as taking a netbook.

Netbook if your acutally useing it for mobile (going outside). Notebook if you just want to move around your house.
2010-03-09 20:26:34 UTC
It depends on what you want to do with it. If it's power and comfort you're after, go with a notebook. If it's portability you're after, then go with a netbook. I personally use my full-sized laptop at home as my primary computer and my netbook when I'm going somewhere. I love my netbook, but I can't use it for long periods of time due to small screen size.

?

Based on my personal experience and knowledge, below are the pros of each. Ultimately, your decision must depend on your personal unique need and usage.

Notebook Pros

- it is definitely faster than notebook as the hardware specs are higher

- most come with DVD/CD burner built-in

- larger screen and keyboard size enhancing work productivity

- more suitable for heavy PC users

- more choices of operating system (windows vista, xp, 7, linux). You can even install 2 operating systems on it

Netbook Pros

- lightweight, good for travelling

- price is very affordable, the last time i check it's as low as USD 280

- only fully optimized to run on certain OS such as windows 7 starter. I run win xp on my netbook before. Certain application windows can't be fully displayed on screen

Questions you should ask yourself before deciding:

1. how much is my budget?

2. where am i going to use it. Do I travel alot, or do i only use it at home?

3. do i do a lot of file processing, image editing, video editing, multimedia tasks? These tasks tend to consume more hardware resources, etc

4. what applications do I commonly use and how much information on screen do I need to see at one time? Do I really need a large screen in order to get my works done effectively?

5. Do I need a built-in DVD player/burner as most netbooks dont come with one

all the way, netbooks, although optimized for the internet, aren't that reliable and are a lot slower, on the other hand, notebooks are a lot faster and better =]

2010-04-11 12:06:41 UTC
Depends on what you want to do with it.

If all you want to do is do internet stuff like surfing, email, youtube etc... then a netbook is what you want because it will do all those things plus is less expensive, lighter, and smaller.

If you want to use programs like Microsoft Office, word processors, games etc... then you need a laptop because these things will run too slowly on a netbook.

2010-04-08 14:33:56 UTC
it all depends on what use its meant to have netbooks are more for business men/people who travel on train a lot while a netbook is more like a laptop which is used for a mixture of games and work
Ibrahim Mohamed A

A notebook since its capable of doing everything a desktop can do.

Intel also released those new processors capable of making the laptop powerful and very slim its lighter than a netbook.

Notebooks have big screens and good grahpics.

I'm making good profit with penny stock

Check here http://trade-pennystock.checkhere.info

Many new investors are lured to the appeal of a penny stock due to the low price and potential for rapid growth which may be as high as several hundred percent in a few days. Similarly, severe loss can occur and many penny stocks lose all of their value in the long term. Accordingly, the SEC warns that penny stocks are high risk investments and new investors should be aware of the risks involved but you can even make very big money. These risks include limited liquidity, lack of financial reporting, and fraud. A penny stock is a common stock that trades for less than $5 a share. While penny stocks generally are quoted over-the-counter, such as on the OTC Bulletin Board or in the Pink Sheets, they may also trade on securities exchanges, including foreign securities exchanges. In addition, penny stocks include the securities of certain private companies with no active trading market. Although a penny stock is said to be "thinly traded," share volumes traded daily can be in the hundreds of millions for a sub-penny stock. Legitimate information on penny stock companies can be difficult to find and a stock can be easily manipulated.

Notebook No contest.

The screen is way too small. IMO any screen smaller than 13 inch is too small.

Netbooks have there uses. Its better to get HD versions.

Or if your lucky Get yourself a 11x Alienware.

Its gota 335 series Geforce GPU :>

Very powerful. Crysis baby.

Short answer:

If you intend carrying the computer around a lot, for travel, University studies, taking to a friends, whatever a netbook is great. They are small, cheap and more importantly for travel, light!

If you want to use the computer for heavy duty media entertainment, Movie watching etc or you need a "full featured" computer with a DVD burner etc and you are not carrying it around a lot in a shoulder bag consider a Notebook.

I'd say that it depends on the circumstances and what someone intends to use their computer for.

If someone would like to edit photos and videos, as well as play games, then I'd say to go for a notebook.

However, if someone is just looking for a computer so that they can surf the web and check and send e-mails, then I'd say to go for a netbook.

If you had been more specific in your question then my answer would have been shorter but noooo....you had to leave out what you want it for you inconsiderate company advertiser type person you.

Notebook: Capable of gaming/work/entertainment (less portable). Usually has 2-4 hrs battery life.

Netbook: Capable of light work/minimum entertainment (more portable). Usually has between 3-8 hrs battery life.

Understand there are exceptions to certain models.

Netbooks are a complete and utter waste of money. The 300-dollarish ones with proprietary software on them are even more so - you can do nothing with but what the vendor wants you to do. The ones that come with XP are better and some can be opened and modded, but you are honestly just better off getting a laptop for a small extra cost and a bit more space/weight.

depends on what you plan to use it for.

a regular laptop has a CD/DVD drive, so if you use it a lot, then I would get a notebook.

if you plan on using it for class or to take notes or for ease when you travel, I suggest a netbook.

I have both and use them both depending on the situation.

It will depend on what you normally do on a regular basis. If you like to check your emails and do light web surfing when you travel, then a netbook would suit you. However, if you like to use a netbook (or laptop) as a mini media powerhouse, then use the netbook.

Interesting Question!
2010-03-12 22:01:00 UTC
Depends on what you want to do. For business I tend to go for a decent net book, however for any work that needs a bit of power such as Photoshop Ill'd go with a notebook. (Actually a desktop when available for Photoshop)

A net book is simply what it is - for the net, surfing, work on the go... You can have all this on a notebook and more, some are even as small as a netbook.

Of course a notebook.

Netbooks are meant for surfing the web and checking your email, it's a underpowered, mini laptop thats missing half the features of a notebook.

Net books are great for backpackers or frequent travellers, due to their compactness, fit in carry on luggage, can watch movies in flight instead of paying for them. Note books bit more cumbersome for the traveller, but still ideal for the person on the go or students. Net book disadvantages, all the peripherals have to be external USB plug n play devices eg, cd/dvd player/burner.

Notebook- For multi-tasking,Office,and gaming.

Netbook-Internet,E-mail,Word,portability.

If you need something that can handle today's software, get a Notebook.

If you need something for "on-the-go" or light surfing get a Netbook.
