What do you mean by "record music"?
Do you mean you want to plug a single instrument into the computer and record it in Garage band? Every Mac being sold today will do that without a problem. Select the one that matches your other needs.
Do you mean you want to record music live? Will This won't be something you can do on a budget. I assume that you don't want to record lousy music, so you need a better than adequate means of capturing everything. This means multiple mics and multiple connections to instruments. And that means an audio sampler other than USB or Firewire - that is, one that comes with a card that fits in an expansion slot. The mean the Mac Pro, which starts are $2700.
But you can also go the crappy route at pick up a multiport USB or Firewire audio sampler. Hey, the choice is yours.

i own the mac book. I like it, however the mac book pro would be a better investment. The mac book however, is the best computer i have ever had. it's quick, easy to use and extremely flexible. The MACBOOK AIR SUCKS! do not get the air. its a rip off because its thin. It has only one usb port and NO DISK DRIVE! thiis is a pain in the but and not worth a penny of the cost. Hope you find the right computer.
Good luck,

iMac or Mac Pro. The Mac Pro is probably more than you need, but it's incredibly customizable and upgradable. The iMac... not so much. It's a nice design, but it's almost impossible to upgrade or replace anything in it.
If you're looking for a laptop, get a MacBook Pro.

You can use a site where you get one for free all you have to do is fill out an offer like flycell I just signed up then discontinued it before the bill kicked in then refer a couple friends then bam free laptop or mac here is the url.
Do not buy a MAC...buy something linux based or anything that has less than a $500 Apple tax.

depends. I have a macbook pro and I record music with friends. It's convenient and portable, as well as super fast. I plug in my guitar and make beats. iMacs are also koool, but not portable. great for home.
