allo mate, some of the answers given here are a total load of crap! d you know what a crossover cable i? nah didn't think so . If you can afford it go buy one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=115248&TabID=1&source=1&doy=24m6

It will be a great investment. you can put all your files on it so you can just plug it into any laptop/pc you want. Simple to use, simple to transfer files onto, no mucking about, you just do it once.

On your old laptop, go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, file and settings transfer wizard. Follow the prompts for copying files from your old computer. Remember to include files such as your music and pictures as these may not be automatically chosen by default. If your new old laptop does not have XP installed, don't worry, your new laptop has the option to setup a file and settings transfer disk.

Save the data file from the file and settings transfer wizard to a folder that you can easily find and share the folder. If the data file is small enough, burn it to a CD or DVD if t has the capabilities.

Hopefully both laptops have wireless capability. Map a drive to the shared folder with the data files on your old laptop.

Run the file and settings transfer wizard on your new laptop. Point it to the mapped drive you just setup, or if you copied the data files to CD or DVD point it to the CD/DVD drive.

When the program completes and you reboot, your new laptop will appear just like your old laptop with the same desktop, mouse, and sounds. All of your data should be in familiar places. And you didn't need to go out and purchase any special programs to accomplish this.

Do you have a home network? Do a google search to see how to share folders on XP (it's pretty easy), then connect the two computers to each other and copy the files over your network.

Failing that, copy everything onto an external hard disk or DVD (may take ages depending on how much data you have to shift).

Back up your data from the old computer on a DVD or an external hard drive and copy the files to the new laptop

Yeh mate i had the same problem.. i would get an external harddrive from somwhere like argos or somthing... i got on for about £70 from there and yeh it was worth its money, There ace just plug it into your old computer and send all the data you want to your new harddrive and from that to your new laptop.. Mine was 90GB i think somthing like that was enough to send all my music and vids and that to my new computer..

P.S well done for keeping XPsp2 i regretted upgrading to vista

Buy a USB thumb drive. Transfer files from the old computer to it and then from it to the new computer.

You will need the installers for any programs to be transferred. Most will not work unless installed.

All you need is a cat5 a Ethernet cable about 3 feet should be fine.Google a cross over cable and follow the instructions and transfer your files.
