Ok, for some reason, my laptop has high cpu usage even when its running one or two programs that use very little resourses. I have used CCleaner to disable all my unwanted start up programs and use all of its tools to speed up the pc, but yet, it has still the high usage. I have defraged the hard drive and checked the task manager for processes that might be using high CPU resourses, but i dont seen to find anything. RAM is normal but CPU usage is through the roof!
Im running a HP pv6 entertainment laptop with a dual core 2.1 amd processor (so it should be normal) and 4 gb of ram. Im running windows 7 home premium 32 - bit system.
Any help would be great :)
Thanks.

CTRL alt Del

and go to your process tab.

See what's using up your CPU so much.

It might actually be a virus. Try scanning your computer with malwarebytes (it's free)

www.malwarebytes.org

and see if the virus is taking up so much CPU usage.

Hope this helps.

Hey Daniel;

Here are other things that may be plagueing your system:

1. You could also have some malware stealing CPU power.

Are your windows updates current? Many updates resolve malware issues.

2. Not all defrags are created equal. I have found the on-board windows defragmentor is not necessarily effective under some situations. You may want to try a good 3rd party defrag and see what happens. The one I use is the top rated defrag tool for 2011 and has a free trial so it costs nothing to rule fragmentation out entirely:

FREE DEFRAGMENTER TRIAL:

3. Free tools like SpyBot Search and destroy and Adaware also help remove debris that can tax your CPU:

SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY

4. Viruses can also seriously overburden a CPU

AVG FREE ANTI-VIRUS

5. Registry errors are also a candidate. I would do this as a last resort though as changing/deleting the wrong registry items can make things worse.

Hope this helps

Cheers!

2 things right off turn on auto update on windows and go into options on VZ access manager and do a manual update on that too. try a defrag but the rest looks ok unless I missed something oo and check to see if you are only user logged on also
