Question:
Why choose Mac over PC?

Okay, so everyone knows that Macs are the preferred computers for techno-savvy people these days, but I don't totally understand why. For me, and perhaps it's because I've just had to mess around with them without anyone really teaching me how to use one, they are much less straightforward than PCs. Also, the word processor (Word for Macs) really annoys me -- I don't like how the window doesn't fill the whole screen. Is there better word processing software available?
But on the other hand, I have heard that Macs, at least the new ones, don't have the same tendency to crash or freeze as PCs.

So what do you guys think? Macs or PCs and why?

You buy cheap software, you get what you pay for. There are already many security holes and bugs for windows 7 even though they already sent out a patch for other holes a month ago. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-7-Hacked-controlled,7619.html Problems with the install.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/174342/windows_7_upgrade_woes_mount_endless_reboots_and_product_key_problems.html The latest windows update causes the computer to crash. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8388253.stm Not only that, Windows 7 is still 30 years behind other platforms, it does not "salt" its password hashes making it easy to get a users password. It's UI may look better then vista, but under the hood it is still unstable. Microsoft makes bad software, Internet Explorer, 7, Vista, 2000, on and on and people still buy it, its amazing.

On a mac, you will not need to install antivirus/anti-spyware/drivers there will be no registry errors, missing dlls and daily crashes. The updates are smooth and upgrades are easy, I just updated from 10.5 to 10.6 with out a problem. Try upgrading from vista to 7 without problems, or even the service packs. I can upgrade from Mac 10.1 (2000) to 10.6 (2009) without data loss and everything working as it should. You can not even go from XP to 7 which is amazing. Not only that, alot of drivers, programs and hardware are not compatible with 7. It is always this way with windows, and you end up spending more money on upgrades and virus removal every time an update comes out.

The applications on mac do not require an installer to install it, its just one icon that can be moved easily. On windows, the installer installs files all over the system for every application, causing fragmentation of the hard drive and the possibility for crashes goes up. This also allows bloat ware and malware to be installed without the user knowing it.

The "mac is unpopular there for not many viruses are written for it" argument is complete BS. With Mac OS 9 back when the mac market share was around 5% there were 500+ viruses for the OS. Today with Mac OS X and a mac market share of 10% you think there would be double the amount of viruses. There are in fact maybe 10 application specific (not OS) trojans for the modern mac. No viruses, just hard to get trojans.

Actually, it's just a matter of personal opinion. Some people prefer Windows, and some prefer Mac OS. I am one of those people that want to be able to customize their computer, whether it's a PC or a Mac. I prefer Windows because it's much more customizable and for me - easy to use. And yes, I've worked on a Mac before, and I'm still working, but I'm kind of closer to Windows. You see, even though there are many applications in the Mac OS, Windows lets you do much more things with programs, which are really simple to use. It's true that Windows can freeze and lag a lot, but if you take care of it, it won't. It's also true that Windows can get viruses, but that's why anti-virus programs are created. I myself have a laptop with Windows. I've had it for three years and I've never had a virus infect it nor I ever had to take it to a service.

I just got a mac, and i switched from a p.c. so i know what you mean about some of your hesitations like for the whole window maximizing thing. But the truth is, if you want to do it on mac it takes 2 more seconds. Other than that, the operating system on mac is sooo superior to p.c. there is practically no comparison. for you and me (every-day users) we just notice it as never freezing or crashing. And once you get used to the way things work on mac, which takes literally less than a day, you would never understand why anyone would own a p.c. Apple just makes everything so ridiculously easy, efficient, and convenient.

One argument for p.c is that it is cheaper, because mac starts at 1000 for macbook. That is true, but in those cases, what you get for the extra couple of hundred dollars is completely worth. In other cases the price for a p.c. of similar hardware is the same as mac. Let me clarify - For example: if you wanted a p.c. with 120 GB hard disk, like intel celeron 1.8 ghz processor and 1 Gb ram, it might cost you 700. But the minimum mac you can get for 1000 has 250 gb hard disk, 2.23 intel core 2 duo, and 2 gb ram. its like getting a computer twice as good, for not even 50% more.

Mac also makes all the hardware and software for their computers, so everything is compatible and easy to use. In conclusion, mac and p.c.'s are tow completely different worlds. you might not think there is a difference now, but once u have a mac, you would never go back

I use to be a loyal PC user since I was 12 (I'm 30 now). 3 years ago I bought a Macbook Pro and have never looked back. I still use a PC laptop at work and it drives me crazy, constantly freezing and taking forever to load.

My reason for owning and loving a Mac are:

- Stability

- No virus or adware. Never once had a problem with anything and I download a lot!

- I use photoshop PS4 and the graphics and the ease of the program are just better on my mac

- and of course style

In my honest opinion I will never ever buy another PC. Especially since you can use Windows on a mac now with the dual intel processor through Parallels or Boot Camp.

It only seems to be not as Straight forward b/c you are not used to the operating system. Most people have been around Pc their whole life3 (myself included) and so that's their comfort zone. Mac are actually much easier to use and whole exponentially less problems then Pcs. Mac's use Unix instead of DOS, thus making it nearly impossible to get a virus/malware/spyware. Mac's use a lot less memory too and does work more efficiently.

Mac really aren't hard to get used to and you'll be happy that you did. My biggest concern is the price tag. But, you get what you pay for.

Well with the new technology I like mac with windows 7. The only downside I have found from mac is that most applications are made for windows, but if your willing to purchase another O S. Then go for mac.

1. Macs are the preferred user computer they are very easy to navigate and are stable. 2. PCs are the tech savvy computers they always have been. And 3. The word on Mac is horrible the one for Pc is much better. Ask any PROFESSIONAL that they will say the same things i just did.

"so everyone knows that Macs are the preferred computers for techno-savvy people these days"

Fail.

Only those who have wasted all that money on one say that.
