Hello everyone, I am looking for a laptop for college. I dont need it to be too high powered because the only gaming i really do is Sims 2 and 3. I would love to get a cheap laptop that is going to last me more then the typical 4 years. Portability would be a plus and I like 15 inch screen size. I am not a mac girl so that is already out of the question. I do like dells but im open to other options such as hp's acers' so anything but mac....

Your personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

WOOOOW this is exactly what I am asking also! I am going to college in the fall and play the sims and don't like macs and want a 15 inch screen.... alright so I asked a guy at my parents work to look for me, I gave him these criteria and I wanted it to be color. I found this one myself, its a Sony VIAO and its on sale... you can personalize it on the website for what you want but its pretty great! Its called the Sony VPCEB490X.... this is the url if you want :]

I will let you know if the guy at my parents work gives me any other good laptops to choose from :] My price range was to $800 btw

hope to help!

I used to have hp compaq presario, and it heats up like hell, though the processor is only 2.0 Ghz and 2 Gb ram and without graphics card.

Now I have Dell Inpsiron 1464, running Intel Core i3, 4 Gb ram, ATI mobility Radeon HD 4330, for almost one and half year, it works perfectly for me. I don't even bother to extend the warranty.

You can get accer for even higher spec but same price as my laptop above, but accer has known issues of hardware instability. Meaning that, within warranty period the laptop will start to show problems. Then, you'd better have 3 years warranty.

i have owned dell and so has my brother, they are great. here is one from best buy for 349. it comes with 4gb of RAM(standard now and more them enough for either sims), a good speed processor, a good size hard drive, a web cam, and it is 15 inch screen. this should last at least 6 years. and i wouldnt recommend custom building a laptop, it costs alot more and most people do not get any benefit out of it, just something that makes people feel good about spending extra money they dont need to. heres the link

NEVER GET AN HP LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they freeze all the time!!!! I got one and it kept on freezing, so I traded it in for another one and it still froze alot. I ended up geting my money back and bought a 15 inch Gateway laptop and it is awesome and has everything I need. By the way, HP netbooks dont freeze. my cousin has one and it works fine. I recomend you get a netbook for college cuz they are small, light, and you can take it anywhere. The choice is yours.

Any present day-day pc you need to purchase would be adequate for college use. you may the two bypass high priced and get one that is extra eye-catching (after college) or you may bypass extra much less high priced and get one strictly for college. confirm you ask questions with regards to the battery/existence span till now procuring a laptop, if I have been you, i could get one with a battery of four hours+. One final tip till now you bypass off procuring, i could examine expenses on line first and study them with pc shops inclusive of BestBuy. BestBuy has a tendency to over make the main of their electronics and that i could propose checking expenses till now procuring.

let me analyze...

you dont need high powered laptops..what does this say..i mean i really didnt get that...are you saying that .u need the laptops with "less cell batteries-lyk 12cells 6cells or how many" or r u saying that u need a battert that doesnt get heat up faster..after the you start to us..okay m going to answer both your question..if ur talking out cells then..it shows how longs ur laptop gives battery backupss..n for it...any one is good coz it depends on number of cells it contains and apart the way you use..it has very less to do with company..anyway if i have to take the name for no too high powered(as u asked) i would say dell or msi..both are superb...

next think cheap..okay its not just me who is frugal..hahah.anyways you see...the price solely depends on the battery cell..quality...harddisk size ram...and many more...as you said u need for college..so probablu..you are needing for studies,right..which means no more..movies...games...i mean to say not...addicted..so..go for notebook...as i am also college student n got one hp-mini for the studying purpose.its good..its cheap..n ya...for studying purpose..lyk opening pdfs word documents ..downloads..its good.

now portability...then hp-mini is best its is as m using..if u want to see the hp mini google it for its pic!

now concluding..would say..use hp-mini...its battery heats up...quickly..its disadvantage...but theres solution..it depends on how u use ur machine..isnt it..since hp-mini is cheap..and made for studying purpose...(no cd/dvd no wired modems) has 4 usb ports ..n 4:30 hrs battery backup..its fantastic...and its lasts for around 3yrs..and u use...propperly with care 4yrs..as u told..would be done...and finally m not saying hp-mini coz i use it..but i luv...i read above -"my experience..would b appreciated" hope m clear enough !
