Pentium D isn't for laptops. The laptop dual core CPU is called Intel Core Duo (T2x00 series).

The difference is that the Pentium D and the Core Duo have 2 cores, while the Pentium M is a single core processor.

You can go either with the M or the Core Duo, depends on the software you're running.

For gaming and surfing the Pentium M is still better, while for graphics programs the Core Duo is the better choice.

Pentium M was designed for laptops and attempts to give the best performance for battery life. Pentium D was designed for desktops and has two cores per CPU. You are starting to see these in laptops but your battery life will suffer.

the energy that pentium D uses will kill your battery really quick. Pentium M is the processor usually seen in notebooks, but i would recommend an AMD Turion for a notebook
