My laptop (Dell Latitude C610) screen shows the colours inverted, as in a negative image. It cant be a motherboard problem as an external monitor works fine when connected. Every now and then the screen reverts back to normal for a few seconds but then goes back to the negative image.

The think what you mean is your screen is upside down.

Is you hold down Ctrl, and ALT. the press the up arrow. Your screen should tun the correct way up.

It can often happen when playing games and you accidental hit Ctrl, Alt and the Down arrow all at the same time.

Most probably you have changed your color scheme.

To fix it Right click on your desktop -> go to Property

You will see a Display Property Dialog Box

Click on Appearance Tab

From Color Scheme Dialog Box Select Window Standard.

That's all !!
