Question:
Ibook laptop battery suddenly doesn't hold charge. Was working fine, now dies and recharges in less than 5min?

This happened overnight. I left my battery on through the night by accident. I fell asleep and left it plugged in for about 7 hours. I have done this before but I had to take the battery out and put it back in for it to even turn back on. Now, the battery charges to 100% within less than 5 minutes and dies to 0% in even less than that when I unplug the charger. I understand batteries die but wouldn't this happen slowly and not suddenly where it just doesn't hold a charge?
Here is the info when it is plugged in:

im sorry to have to tell you this but you most likely have fried the battery.

There is an OUTSIDE chance and i use this term extremely loosly that if you charge it for the usual charge time and fully disharge it and repeat this process 3 times it might repair it but the odds are very slim.

Hmm. How long did it last before? I have an iBook and it has the original battery. I get to 100% and when it gets to around 75% (10-15 minutes) it shuts off and goes to 0. I chalk it up to a really old battery. If it charges fast and drains fast it's the battery. You can get a battery kit for iBooks for $35 and DIY. Some light soldering and your good. I'm pretty skittish about buying an iBook battery as it could of been made in 2002 for all I know.

ok well an Ibook is kinda old ... but good computer, if it is the original battery it has most likely died ... time for a new one ... find a new one on ebay for $20 - 30 ... idk

but yeah, full capacity is 199 ... thats horrible .... my 4 year old tell has a total battery charge of 2495, so yeah man, sorry but its time for you to get a new battery.

good luck

Think About the age of your LapTop Battery, most don't last more than 2-3 years, then it's time to get a New Battery. Try Amazon and NewEgg, then Try Ebay.

You can read the link and follow the advice to see if it will recover given its well within the recycle count (a battery should get to somewhere around 500 cycles)
