Dell Latitude D630 display problem?

Hi all,
I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. The screen stays blank? I can connect it to an external monitor and it works perfect so I dont think its the graphics card. When I do a screen test (FN key + U) on start up, all colors appear clear and vibrant, so I dont think its the back light or inverter. It seems to have the latest graphics card drivers as I did an update and it says the right drivers are installed. In device manager, it has an exclamation mark next to the graphics card (nvidia quadro nvs 135m) and says there was an error starting, but the external display is fine. Am I missing something? does anyone know what else this could possibly be? Thanks so much in advance!

One of the nvidia files is corrupt or more than one is , download the nvidia driver from the manufacture website and reinstall the driver , could be a short in the connector or it came loose from the lcd screen and the motherboard

Dell D630 Video Driver

It is your display adapter and not the graphics driver itself. first find the right device driver for your card and if you have it already then reinstall the driver try looking at local disc C and your driver should be there. see if you can reinstall it from your nvidia folder. if you can not then try a system restore at least a month back and see if that helps also do not have any other monitor hooked up at the time except maybe a s-video cable to a tv so you can see what you are doing. if this does not work then uninstall the driver and reinstall it and make sure that you have it turned on in your device manager. if it is disabled there then it will not work right.

You may have a bad system board, but most likely it's just a bad LCD screen. The external monitor is a good idea to try, but it is not active by default, you have to activate the external display by using the Function key (Fn) along with one of the 'F' keys (I think it's F8 for that model), so you'd do Fn + F8 to activate it, then it should work. If the external display works, then it's most likely the LCD screen itself, but it could still be a bad system board. UPDATE: Hmmm, well if the Fn + F8 didn't work then you may have a more serious problem with the system board. Try this: have the monitor hooked up and power on, then when you power on the laptop, immediately close the lid. Hopefully when it boots up it will see that it's lid is closed and automatically activate the external video port, but you may need an external keyboard as well to be able to use the computer because it may switch the video output if you open it to use it.

you should be under warranty, I had the same problem, it was a bad video card socket, the video card in most dells is under the keyboard, put some pressure and see if it makes a difference.
