I bought a laptop that had windows xp installed. it was working fine and please dont tell me to configure my router ot my wireless card. they are both working fine. the problem is that after i installed updates such as windows service pack things and microsoft office service packs etc the interent explorer just stopped working. I definitely have internet connection as i was able to install updates, i tried a sytem restore, this worked but the problem arose again after about 10 mins. I installed the updates again and the problem was still there. I went on internet explorer and it just freezes and says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. once i managed to quickly type something into the google toolbar before it froze and the page half loaded and then shut doqn automatically in a split second with no error reporter. most other times i right click the tab on the windows taskbar and press close which then leads to the usual eroor reports thing. Comes up with DRWATSON POSTMORTEM DEBUGGER. what the hell is that?

so please dont tell me to check my internet connectiona dn my modem etc. dont tell me system restore and dont tell me to install a new os. thanks alot. rewarding best answer!

That usually means you have some sort of trojan or virus. Depending on how much stuff it keeps messing up you may or may not have to resintall the os. If you wait too long then you won't be able to even run programs. Also, things only get worse when you're plugged up to the internet so unplug that now. Updates are probably not a good idea at all, because drwatson seems to happen on a lot of non-genuine XP versions.

I would suggest that go to document and settings > "your username" and deny all access to that folder by going to the securities tab of the folder properties. That means you have to click on "deny all" for system and all administrators.

That prevent any viruses from running, but all of your settings will reset. You will still get to keep your programs and such except for programs like Google Chrome which installs itself on your user folder instead of program files.

I troubleshoot a lot problems like that for free. You can check some of my other articles at the source link.

You may have bought a laptop with a pirated version of XP. As you downloaded updates the windows genuine software validation tool witheld certain updates and screwed up your computer. Look at the update history in XP.

Go to Microsoft .com to verify if you have legitimate copy of XP.Do you have a good AV and ASPY program? Good Luck.....p.s. IE is part of WinXP
