The speakers are the built in ones from the laptop or external powered speakers connected to the headphone socket?

If external or just using headphones then the Audio port socket is dirty or the pin that fits in the socket is damaged. Clean the port socket with a rolled up piece of paper and literally scrape the inside with it (you don't need much and don't wedge it in or you will never get it out again). The pin you clean with alcohol or even vinegar on a cloth and wipe it.

If the internal speakers then I would suggest it has nothing to do with Windows, speakers crackle because of electrical interference not software incompatibility. Speakers do not need drivers, the audio playback device does (your sound chip) but the speakers do not.

Do you use your laptop in a fixed location? If it remains in the same place then move it some distance away, preferably a few rooms away or out in the garden. Now do what ever it is that generates the crackle in the speakers, is it still there? If yes then it is definitely the speakers, if no then it is picking up interference from another electronic device. Chargers for mobiles are favourite followed by your laptop AC adaptor, perhaps one for the printer or monitor. Unplug everything and reconnect on piece at a time so determine where the problem is.

Start your task manager and look for a file called "Audiodg.exe" and close it. If the sound turns off then turns back on clear as it should be, that means you have the same problem I have, which has no fix. Realtek has a faulty driver that they have not released a fix for yet, and it has been going on for a few years. I wish I could be of more help but unfortunately I have been living with the same thing.
