I'm currently using HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. I hope to buy a new high performance laptop. I have already chosen two laptops, but I have no idea which one should I buy.

These are the models that I've chosen.

* ASUS X550L

Processor - Intel Core i7-4500U 1.8Ghz 4th Generation
System Memory - 6GB DDR3,
Video Memory - NVidia Ge-Force GT 720M 2GB
Storage - 1TB SATA

* HP ENVY 15 J139TX

Processor - 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7-4700MQ (Microprocessor)
System Memory - 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM
Video Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (2 GB DDR3 dedicated)
Storage - 1TB SATA

At a glance it seems to me that HP is better in specification wise. However, according to my experience the main problem in HP laptops; they easily get heat and stuck. I haven't heard that Asus laptops get heat easily. System memory in the HP laptop doesn't matter, I can upgrade it to 6 or 8 GB if needed.

I need someone's idea about these laptops. I don't understand what is the microprocessor is. Is it better than a normal laptop processor?

I highly appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

Thanks.

I own a ASUS gaming Laptop and previous I had a HP laptop both I had to send for repair. I prefer the HP repair service over ASUS. Dont worry about microprocessor word is the same thing as the normal laptop processor. this how they stack up against each other http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4700MQ-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4500U

this how the GPU stack up against each other http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-740M-vs-GeForce-GT-720M. I personally prefer the HP the specs are quite beefy compared to the ASUS. I would just get a fan when doing video editing or gaming on any laptop. try doing some research and look at some reviews.

The HP DV6 was a disaster. The GPU had a nasty habit of failing (from heat) or the GPU actually becoming unsoldered from the motherboard, again because of the heat generated. I have two dead DV6s in my basement from that very failure.

I strongly discourage the purchase of HP consumer laptops. I strongly ENCOURAGE the purchase of HP business class hardware (ProBooks and EliteBooks, particularly EliteBooks). Asus laptops in general are great machines. I have no negative experiences with them. The other line to consider is Lenovo, particularly Thinkpads. I used to deal with laptop hardware going into the hands of insurance field claim adjusters. Those machines go through the mill. The only hardware I would consider putting in the hands of one of those people is a Thinkpad or an Elitebook (short of a fully ruggedized machine).

I have had good luck with both of those brands of laptops. I am currently typing this answer on a two year old ASUS Ultrabook that has been very reliable.

As far as the brand goes,

The brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating.

I can't find the exact models that you cite, they may only be available in your area, However here are Amazon customer reviews of similar models.

Failure of HP computers within the first one years is about 37 percent.

In a survey done three years back it was seen that HP had an initial failure rate (within the first years) of 37 percent.

Another survey (below) about Laptops shows the ASUS is better than HP.

HP Laptops could only muster a "bronze medal" even in 2012.

The links below tells you more about this.
