I am trying to install it on an Acer Aspire 5000 but the touchpad and keyboard are unresponsive so I am unable to type in the product key and therefore unable to continue the installation. Does anyone know why this could be happening and how to fix it please?

Use a standard101/102 ps/2 keyboard stay away from any usb type keyboards until you get window completely installed it's a compatibility/driver problem. Windows doesn't load every type of driver for every type of keyboard so you basic mouse key board set get window up and running fully then install the keyboard you want later. Just make sure you have the correct drivers if you do change it later.

What Kent said is true, but the fact that your using a touch pad would suggest your using a laptop, when asking questions like this, the more info given, the better!

you could try using a usb keyboard, but you might need to change a setting in the bios to allow the use of a usb keyboard, although there is a chance that it is already set to do so, depending on the age of your machine.

Is this a laptop or desktop? If this is a desktop and you're using a USB keyboard on an older machine (especially if it's a specialty/gaming keyboard), it may not natively be able to recognize that.

If a laptop, it's common that a cable inside the machine comes loose with keyboards and video. If you're adept enough, you might try rechecking those connections.

old computers only recognize old keyboards during installation of OS. the Ps2 connectors. its the violet circular port... Usb keyboards disable itself while booting. so ps2 keyboards are always better when reformating ur pc.

its asking for a prior disc probably because of the fact the identity code you typed in is an improve version -- in case you purely pop in a SP2 CD - I dont think of the device will boot to it - (its not a bootable disc)
