Under its VAIO imprint, Sony produces laptop computers for a wide range of user types. No matter which model you use, few malfunctions can prove more frustrating than if your VAIO simply won't turn on. Although several problems could be to blame, it's a good idea to work through some basic troubleshooting measures before panicking and taking your VAIO in to a repair specialist--it's very likely that a minor problem, one you can fix yourself, is to blame.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
1
Plug your VAIO into the nearest wall outlet. Although this may sound too simple to be true, you might be mistaken in assuming your VAIO currently has enough power to turn on.
2
Check the wall outlet you're using with other devices if your VAIO still won't turn on. Plug a simple device with an "On/Off" switch such as a lamp or desk clock into the outlet and see if it works. If it doesn't, try plugging your VAIO into another outlet.
3
Unplug any accessories such as iPods, printers and cameras from your computer if your computer will power, but will not boot up. According to Sony, peripheral devices--and, in some cases, even additional RAM you have installed--can prevent startup.
4
Start Windows in Safe Mode if it won't boot up as normal. Turn off your computer, then hold down the "F8" key as you power it on, scroll down to "Safe Mode" and hit the "Enter" key.
5
Call VAIO technical support at 239-768-7669 to speak with a Sony representative directly if you can't solve the problem yourself.
