Well, I have a Acer TravelMate 290 and some days ago, I started getting a windows error when turning on the computer. It says that Windows boot has failed because a file (\Windows\System32\ntkrnlpa.exe) is missing. Well, even though I'll lose all the data I have in my computer, I decided to use the recovery CDs to put the computer working again. Well, I used the system CD, a screen appeared, I pressed A (Accept), I inserted the Recovery CD and waited. A blue screen appeared and it said:

"Microsoft (R) Mouse Driver Version 8.20

Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1983-1992.

Copyright (C) IBM Corp. 1992-1993

Mouse driver installed."

Well, I thought the recovery was running, but I waited three hours and nothing, the same thing was still there. So, I left the computer on a whole night, and in the next morning, the same thing about the mouse driver appeared.

Can someone help me with this?

(Or, is there another way to fix the Windows problem with using Recovery CDs?)

Your recovery CD loads into memory (RAM) - I would suggest you have a RAM failure.

Download Memtest and burn the ISO to a CD. Reboot with this disk to check your RAM

Unfortunately you cannot legally download those discs for free. They contain copyrighted information and there are other restrictions on the discs. Your best bet would be to contact Acer directly and request a replacement disc.
