How do I resize an image to fit my desktop background?

I have an image that I'd like to put as my background, but it's apparently too large, because when I set it as the BG, it shows a bit of the middle, but cuts off the rest.

How do I fix this and get the full image to show up? I think my monitor is 15.6 inches

You should have an option to Fit To Screen which will scale the image so it fills your screen.

On a Mac it is in System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop

On Windows right click on the Desktop and select Properties (or Personalize) > Desktop

I open the image in paint and use the select tool to select the whole image, then I drag the edges in to shrink. I save the image, then put it as my back ground to see of it fits like I want. If not, I go back and do it again.
