Hey all. I'm running a gateway NV79C59u notebook and every time I try to update Windows, it will always revert to a startup repair attempt when I restart it following the update. Since that never fixes anything, I've had to resort to turning off automatic updates which kind of bugs me considering a purchased copy of Windows 7 should be able to get the updates.
I've run several virus scans with MalwareBytes, but nothing's come up thus far, so I'm assuming it's not a virus. I've tried running an extended memory scan (as offered through advanced recovery options), but it always hangs at 21% through the first test.
I've run some other text which, after a quick skim through, has the following text:
Boot critical file d:\ci.dll is corrupt
[more text] Error Code = 0xa

I'm guessing that has something to do with the problem, but it hasn't been enough to lead me anywhere. I've had this annoyance for two weeks now, and it's starting to irritate me at this point.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

ci.dll is a rootkit malware from the TDSS family. Download Kaspersky TDSSKiller and remove it. Next scan your computer with a full antivirus like ESET or avast!. Malwarebytes is just for spywares it cannot replace the necessity of a full antivirus product. Check out the link below for instructions.
