The best way to prolong the life of your battery is simply to use it only when its needed. If you are not using your computer, it is best to turn it off, and not leave it on standby 24-7.

You also should NOT NOT NOT leave it plugged in all the time. This is the worst thing that you can do to the battery. I used leave mine plugged in at 100% for about a year and i had to purchase a new battery due because it no longer held a charge for over 5 seconds.

If its dead, charge it. When its at 100...take it out.

Tips:

-Discharge the battery to 2-3% once in a week then recharge it.

-Don't plug it whole day on power supply Or keep it plugged in but remove the battery.

Suggestions: After using Laptop continuously for more than 4 hours, give a rest of few minutes. This extents the life of your processor and prevent it from over heating.

Two things will help tremendously. First, take out the battery if you have it plugged in all the time. It helps with heat dissipation and prolong the life of the battery which heat and constant charging destroys.

Second, make sure you have plenty of airflow around the sides and bottom of the computer. Keep paper and other things from proping up against the air vents that cool the cpu.

Battery Usage Tips

New battery pack must be fully charged before use.

New battery pack needs to be fully charged and discharged (cycled) a few times before it can condition to full capacity.

Rechargeable batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused. Always store a battery pack in a fully charged staged for storage.

Fully drain and fully recharged your battery pack every few months.

Turn down the LCD brightness of your portable device.

Use built-in power management on your portable device.

Turn off LCD or other unnecessary accessories when not in used.

Set screen saver blank to 1 to 2 minutes of your notebook

Add more RAM if you have extra RAM expansion slot, it will reduce the usage of hard drive and it is power exhaustive.

Close unused software in your notebook.

Remove unused PC Cards or USB devices from your notebook.

Don't watch DVD or play graphics intensive video games.

Don't short circuit terminal or store your battery pack with metal parts.

Don't drop or mutilate the battery pack.

Don't expose to moisture or water.

It is normal to get warm when charging or normal use. If it is getting too hot, there may be a problem with the device and qualified personnel should check it.

Keep it plugged in and remove the battery. This way the battery is not constantly recycling when you turn the PC on/off. I believe every time you start the PC up, it counts as recharge cycle which lends to eventual degrading. The only drawback is that if you have to take it somewhere with you, it won't be fully charged.

If you're laptop is not in use, better put it in hibernate mode. It does not only save you the needed battery it also won't take a long time to turn the laptop on.Watching movies and playing music at high volume tends to drain a lot of power from your battery.

You should leave it plugged in until you use it. I lap top's charge goes away if you leave the don't use the charge that is there..... Also, a you can change your power plan to power saver, that way your battery will last longer, but the performance of your computer will decrease.... (It doesn't decrease much at all..... I always leave it at power saver) Hope I helped!! Yaz

Get a extra battery, but I don't suggest using it as a desktop. Why not just get a desktop instead? The battery will die in about 2 years since you are using it 24/7. Anyway try keeping it in a cool temperature and dim screen as low as you can handle. You could also try using it without the battery, since you are basically not using it. You just need to keep it plugged.

Charge/discharge the battery to about 50% and remove the battery.

Then leave it plugged in.

Don't ever try to charge your battery all time. This is the worst thing because charging all time makes your battery almost dead. It decreases the life of battery.

When you're using it like a desktop, just keep it plugged in, AND remove the battery.

Remove the batteries.

If you are going out and feel there will be a power loss, and you need batteries, then put them back.

You need to change your performance level. The least batter consuming is "POWER SAVER"

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW LAPTOP!!
