So I am really interested in the I-Pad but I been hearing some negative things. I'm a college student looking to find something small that I could bring to class. So I could type notes, visit e-mail, study, read, and more. I have a HP 16t HDX so this is a pretty big and heavy laptop to lug around. That's why I am looking for a tablet or maybe a laptop mini. For I-Pad what I heard was the it doesn't support flash. Which is a bummer for me because most of the pages I visit has flash. People also say the I-Pad tends to lag. Also that it doesn't have usb slots or a camera. The biggest criticism is that it's basically a bigger version of the I-Pod touch since it does everything the same. Upside is with an I-Pad is that I am able to access the ebook reader, app store and more. For the HP slate, it runs with windows 7 but the design is meant for a mouse/keyboard. So the question is which is one is better or should I just go with a laptop mini? What are some pro and cons. If you have either list any problems you experience. Thanks

OK LISTEN I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST THE DELL INSPIRON DUO hybrid. it's supposed to be released pretty soon and it looks awesome. It's around the same price of an iPad too and it runs on windows 7 with a full fold out keyboard. It works as a tablet as well; look at some videos.

I don't know about the hp slate but I know that windows 7 was built for somethin with an actual keyboard. I know that apple does an excellent job of not making their products LAG so the iPad is lag free. I wouldn't suggest gettin it until they develop the 2nd gen iPad (for however long...) because the iPad is still lacking many many features. Then just to add another choice for u, there's the Galaxy Tab by Samsung that you could do some research on and look at. It looks pretty promising too, running on Android instead of iOS; so the galaxy tab Is somewhat like the iPad in many ways.

But I would strongly suggest waiting a while until the Dell INSPIRON duo comes out and you get one of those

Starting @ $549

I would wait for the iPad 2 coming in this late summer (your winter, sorry I live in Aus ;).

It has

Flash Capability

It is less of an ipod touch XL, and more of a revolutionary tablet computer.

It is the same weight as current iPad and it is available as the current back or the iPhone 4 shiny glass back.

It has a HD 5 mp camera, with video and slow motion HD recording functionality, and capability to share the images, voice recordings, videos wirelessly to other devices such as PCs, laptops, iMacs, iPods, iPhones regular phones etc. :)

It has capability to watch TV and purchase movies, documentaries , music videos and also live TV. What is even more special is you can purchase for an extra 20 bucks electronic 3D glasses and watch 3D programs, videos, animations, movies!!!!

You can still use the app store, and itunes, and youtube and the internet as you would normally (I use an iMac 2010 model) and it uses the internet perfectly , fast, and uses less data with higher performance! I am going to get one for Christmas from my parents :). It is the ultimate device seriously you should check it out!

It also includes 2 USB slots, a dvd (revolutionary thin) player and drive. It also has the capability for you to install Mac OSX or Windows XP on it and at startup it asks you whether you want to run on Windows 7, Mac OSX Snow Leopard or iOS5 (Future iPad operating system).

It has greater Wifi, Bluetooth and 3G capabilities and you will get free 10 GB start up data depending on what telco your with. So imagine super fast, cheap, wifi, or 3G internet browsing from anywhere in your house, or your country :)

And so you can do everything with your iPad 2 (or X which i heard was what it was going to be called).

Everything you could want is in it so good luck :)

Add: Pricing starts from $600 australian, for wifi and 30 GB TO $1000 for wifi, 3G, and 100 GB so good luck friend.

P.S. If you have a friend or know someone who works at apple. they can give you a 10%- 20% discount. So $600 would be circa $510 and $1000 would be $850 so good luck :)

I have the iPad and I am really glad I bought it. It does not need a camera or a USB slot, using its network capabilities you can transfer any file easily. The iPad absolutely NEVER lags. If you jailbreak your iPad, you will be able to access a plugin called FRASH, which is actually Flash for iPad.

Edit : You can also install Adobe and MS Office replacements, Openoffice and whatever, and they are really good. Apple offers these software and they are easy to use.

Truthfully, it's a false comparison. The two are both tablet devices, and they both deliver many of the same functions, but it's an apples and oranges comparison of different devices, with different goals, and different intended audiences. You don't see any epic comparisons of the HP Slate and the Barnes and Noble Nook even though they're both tablet devices.
