Ok, so I know I have a pci express x16 slot on my laptop (compaq presario F572US). I know this because I went to the specs on the website said video bus: PCI express x16. I heard that graphics on a laptop aren't upgradeable. I know that my graphics are currently integrated to the motherboard, so I can't upgrade that. But can't I just get a pci express x16 graphics card for my laptop? Wouldn't that work? Then the graphics card would enhance my graphics, right? Do I hae to get an adapter or anyhting....would it even work if I got a graphics card like this and inserted it into my laptop? If no, why not? If I get a graphics card, do I have to upgrade the rest of my computer, like the memory, or a better cooling fan? Please help..10 pts for best answer.

Unfortunatly no, you cant upgrade the card on a persario f572

Your PCI slot is being use to power the video capabilities of your laptop, b ut you cannot simply put in a pcix16 card into a laptop.

Laptop video cards use the MXM (Mobile eXclerated Media)connection not the PCI slot. A PCI card has tot "stand" in the slot so would by itself be taller than your entire notebook. Also if you could somehow figure out how to adapt the card to lay flat with some kind of odd connector then you would have to worry about the insane heat level that a desktop video card would produce in a very limited thermal budget notebook.

So if you some how were able to figure out how to adapt a desktop video card to accept your non-exsitant connecor, and were somehow able to make it not burn up in the confines of a laptop... then

You would only have to figure out how to actually power the thing...as even a Dual 8800GTX laptop doesnt have the power supply needed to power most any desktop level cards.... maybe the Voodoo server replacement laptop with its 12v power rails... but even then i doubt it

I just looked up the specifications for this laptop and you cannot upgrade the graphics card. The PCI express x16 just means that the built in graphics card utilizing the PCI express x16 bus within the laptop's motherboard. Therefore, the graphics card is capable of using up to the PCI express x16 bandwidth limitation. But it does not necessarily mean you will utilize this bandwidth limit depending on how much data the graphics card is receiving and transmitting.
