I have been trying to do a factory reset for a friend on a Dell Laptop with Windows 7-64. I created the image onto a USB, but whenever I try to boot from the USB (even tried just using factory reset with the Dell Datasafe Local Backup and from an image on a dvd) and I get the following error:
File: \Windows\System32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xC0000001
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is either missing or corrupt.

What could be the problem and how can I fix this? I did try using an Operating System disk I have for another PC that has Win7 and it initiated like it should. But for some reason, the image I created isn't working. What can I do to fix this corrupt file? I ran sfc/scannow and no errors came back. Ran Memory Diagnostic Tool. Nothing. It’s killing me not knowing what the problem is or how to fix it. I read somewhere Norton 360 (which is installed) might be causing a problem.

You can not use a set of recovery disc from another PC's install of a Windows operating system, first it would be a illegal copy of Windows, second all the utilities and drivers would not be correct for the laptop. Is it a laptop or netbook, what is the model number of the Dell, do you have or did you create the operating system recovery disc set using the built in program for doing this on the Dell laptop ?

You may have to order the recovery disc set to fix it and do a system reinstall with all the correct drivers and utilities since trying to use the wrong recovery disc. I assume it is a netbook since you tried using a USB drive and not the disc set.

you can only do a factory reset from a recovery partition(ESDI partititon) or a CD made from the partition or a cd provided from the manufacturer, you are trying to install from an image which should be on a CD, an image is not a workable file it needs to be written to media using a program that can interpret it, there is no winload readable because it is compressed within the image and not readable by the install program

Some motherboards don't support USB booting or it could be corrupt data.

I the Recovery CD/DVD is corrupt then you need to download a new one and burn it.

Otherwise try clicking safemode and try rebooting again.
