I upgraded my Windows 98 into a Windows XP about a month ago and I haven't been able to download files like iTunes, iPhoneModem, etc. So, I went and did a Windows Update with a speed of 54.0 Mpbs and it won't download! My Internet works fine and fast with my laptop connect card but the Update is way to slow. So, What's wrong with the Windows Update? And, Why can't I download files on my Windows XP laptop?

hmmm. Well it seems like it must be your Internet connection and not the update. If you can download items but they are just too slow after your recent update, then it has to be your connect card. Maybe your connect card was only compatible with Windows 98. Or maybe it works with both but maybe its more effective with the old windows you used to use. The update is usually intended to increase speed and satisfaction between you and your computer interface, not decrease it. Maybe you need a new connect card or a wireless modem. If the problem persists then call the computer manufacturer or the Windows update company.

sometimes a virus can stop the windows updates working so make sure it;s not that first.

run this if you can.

There is around 100 update files that need to be downloaded and installed which can take the best part of a day to do so make sure you let it do that. be patient.

It is also possible that your Hard disk is seriously fragmented. do do a defrag.

Make sure you have activated your copy of windows xp or it won't download updates.

get service pack 2 on there ASAP if you haven't already. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Plug an ethernet connection into the pc/laptop to get update files faster

then do a disk clean up wizard to finnish.

If u mean windows 7 n not 2007 and you have all the disks that u need to reinstall office and any other program you need than reformat the drive on which the trial version is located and load XP. It is always better if u load ur operating system on a seperate drive or partition. Good luck

Only the person logged in as administrator can download files, install or remove programs. Also you may need to add the site that your downloading from to the allowed list in your Internet Security program.
