Question:
Is microsoft handing over the netbook market to linux?

I had just heard that Microsoft's version of windows 7 for the netbooks are windows 7 start. This seems to be a big mistake, as windows 7 starter is going to like home basic but with a 3 program limit. It seems that more people are going to get windows xp instead of windows 7. But microsoft is going to stop shipping windows xp soon after windows 7.

Personally I think Microsoft should have used windows 7 home basic, but they scraped that months ago.

With windows 7 I can see that three program limit could turn users to look into Linux-based operating systems, especially after windows xp stops shipping.

Personally what would you prefer a full operating system or an operating systems the limits what you do? I was considering of getting a netbook with windows 7, but now after this. I am just going to stay with ubuntu.

As I sometimes have my IM client, web browser, word processor, and sometimes a media player or some other program all up and running at the sametime and not in the background..

I am not getting windows xp because they are dropping the support and very insecure compared to the other operating systems of windows vista/7, mac, and linux-based.

PS: Mac might never enter the netbook market thanks to Steve jobs saying "we don't know how to make a $500 computer that's not a piece of junk, and our DNA will not let us ship that"

right now the only reason windows XP isn't retired is because of netbooks. Vista is to big and clunky to be very practical and windows 7 might be the same way. for the moment though XP is still holding strong as the most common operating system for netbooks.

I think you may be right about Mac. mac makes good quality, but somewhat expensive laptops. that's their thing. i think the closest mac will get to a netbook for a while is their 13" model of the Macbook.

even as Microsoft is actual mismanaging the sub-pc style of pcs, it ought to not all visit Linux. surely, Linux adoption in that sector will improve, yet i think that the most important change will be a resurgence of piracy of living house windows XP and Win 7 large Deluxe Pony version in North us of a of america. Microsoft has continually been fairly undesirable on the small pcs.

I'd rather run an OS that can run most things, then run an OS that can run everything but yet I can't because MS demands more money.
