I'm 14 years old, and really bad with technology in general so please keep it simple xD I have a Mac and would like to run Windows on it. I have read about Bootcamp, partitioning but it pretty much sounds like some kind of foreign language to me haha. I'd be grateful if someone could explain it. Also, i read that i have to ''buy a copy of windows'' first. Do i literally just go into an Apple store and ask for it? Is it like a disc or something...? How do i put a disc into an Mac when there's no slot (i said i was bad!). And what the heck is an ''intel processor'' and how do i check if my mac has it??? Also, is it pricey? xxx

Every Mac made in the last 10 years or so has had an Intel processor, that part is fine. People still use bootcamp on the latest macs, so it should be doable. If you just look for bootcamp in your app folder it gives instructions there too.

Yes, you have to buy a copy of Windows. Either get it online (like Amazon) or go to a store that would have software.

You can get USB DVD drives, that might work, may borrow a friend's drive. You can also install Windows from a USB drive but I don't know how those work on a Mac. I'd search these things on Google and find if others have done it.

Bootcamp is free, Windows will run between $100 and $200.

As for how to do it, there are tons of youtube videos that show you step by step how to do it.

It's been several years since I set it up on my wife's laptop, and she uses Parralels on her iMac, which is different.

Since about the same time Apple snatched Steve Jobs back from pasture, which is long time ago, Macs are totally reengineered to be essentially Wintel PCs with Apple logo. That's Windows + Intel there.

Bootcamp is the boot manager to coordinate the booting procedures, in this case prompt and make possible smooth startup of the machine with the OS you selected to boot up.

They did skip the instruction that a copy of Windows is a DVD package to an external USB DVD drive that you buy and plug in the system.

You need a copy of Windows 7 8 or the newly released 10. The copy must be new and have a License Key. Since your mac doesn't have a Disk Tray you have to create a disk image of the windows copy.

> Create a disk image of your Windows Disc

When you purchase Windows, it will come as a disk image file (ISO) or as an installation disc. If your copy of Windows came on a DVD, you should create a disk image of your installation disc.

> Open Boot Camp Assistant

Boot Camp Assistant walks you through installing Windows on your Mac. Open this app from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder and follow the onscreen instructions to automatically repartition your startup disk and download related software drivers for Windows. When prompted, connect your USB flash drive.

> Format your Windows partition

When you complete the assistant, your Mac restarts to the Windows installer. When you're asked where you want to install Windows, select the BOOTCAMP partition, then click Format.

Install Windows

> Follow the onscreen prompts to finish your Windows installation.

> Restart your computer

After Windows is installed, you can switch between OS X and Windows. Use the Startup Disk preference pane in OS X, or the Boot Camp system tray item in Windows to select your startup disk, then restart your computer

If it's a newer Mac it should have an intel processor - here is how to find out:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201580

Once you have determined that - here are instructions for installing Windows:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468

If you don't have an optical (CD/DVD) drive - you can either use an external one, or get what is called a 'disk image file' or 'ISO' (basically downloading the files that would have been on the disk).

Boot camp handles the formatting process.

If you are bad with technology, then it's best that you personally don't try to install Windows. Get a Windows license, take it to an Apple Store, and let them do it for you so you don't mess anything up.
