Macs are more expensive and harder to repair. They are better suited towards graphics/sound/video applications. They are also significantly easier to use for someone unfamiliar with computer operating systems.

PCs are cheaper and very easy to repair (generally). They are better suited for networking and business applications (word/excel).

Personally I use both on a daily basis and would not begin to proclaim that one is better than the other, they're just different.

If your looking for a personal laptop to surf the net with and maybe do some school stuff the Mac rocks, but if price is a concern go PC.

Macs are good computers and usually are easier to work as all their interfaces are user-friendly.

The mac or Apple issue is that it is a closed system. This means that for programmers, they have to get a special code to operate on the Mac OS. This causes problems as there are many programmers that are not willing to pay for the code meaning less programs for the Mac. This of course is a double edge sword as there are fewer viruses that can affect a Mac because of this.

Also there is an issue dealing with the compression of files as the Mac OS and Vista are using different compression formats. Either of these supports the others format so transferring from one to another is difficult.

Macs are about the same as regular laptops and are not faster. The other big issue is that Macs cost more but that is changing as they are becoming cheaper with the use of the Intel chip.

Is the Mac worth it, it depends on the person. I know many that will stay with Macs, and I know many that will stay with PCs. Both of them are good for laptops.

Desktops are a different story and that is for another question.

I'd go with the Mac because they're usually more stable. Mac's do not crash and die like PCs. They are also the best for media editing.

If you're asking:

What is the best operating system? They are all different, offer different pros and cons, and fill different needs for different people. For example, Gamers have different needs than DVD authors, Podcasters, etc.

I personally believe that the best operating system is the one that you LIKE to use and that meets ALL your needs. That is the bottom line.

If your really asking:

Is a MAC worth the price?

Try this experiment: Price out a MAC at www.apple.com Then, price out a “virtually hardware identical” PC at www.dell.com, www.hp.com, etc. Then, add Vista Ultimate (like OS X), M$-Office (Neo-Office free for OS X), Norton Internet Security (no known OS X malware), Back up software (Included in OS X and Vista), and any other software you may need on the Windows PC (Likely free on OS X).

Then, compare prices, I believe you will find that the Mac PRICE will be very close (+/- 10%). Just remember, quality always costs a little more.

Finally, go to an Apple Store and take one for a test drive and ask LOTS of questions. Then, decide for yourself.

TIP: Windows runs on an Intel Apple PC/OS X Leopard using BootCamp.

ELfaGeek's response was techincally correct up until he stated that there are no know malwares affecting Macs.

He's very much wrong on that point. Macs have infinately fewer viruses and other malware that can affect it on the 'net, but almost without exception, Mac viruses are universally fatal.

Also, as the Mac regains some of the lost market share they had back in the '80's, there will be more and more malware written specifically for Mac OS's

As to the differences...

Price: PC cheaper.

OS's: Mac cheaper

OS Features: PC wins (Apple is just now introducing features that Windows OS users have had since the late 80's!)

Malware: Mac cleaner

Programs: PC programs cheaper - more programs for PC (games and apps)

Tech: PCs tend to be a generation (or more) ahead of Mac

Repairs: PCs cheaper

Parts (Upgrades): PC cheaper

Flexibility: PC

User Friendly: Mac wins - diabetics tend to go into diabetic comas when using Macs. ;)

Laptops: Windows laptops are cheaper to buy.

Compatability: Most networks are PC based, and Mac laptops have a difficult time connecting if not running a Windows based OS or Linix.

Stability: Mac wins (usually)

Quality: Mac (Apple manufactures ALL Apple/Mac PCs from specific components, and ensures quality is always high, where as with PC, you have quality ranging from Lenovo (IBM) - excellent - to Dell - crap...)

Which is better? Neither, really. Despite what I've written here, Macs are great machines that have issues. But, the same can be said of almost any Windows machine.

i have both mac and windows pc,i guess now it comes down to perference.i prefer to use windows pc over mac.others will say mac etc...its like an on going battle between the systems.if i was you i would go to a computer store and test out both and choose one.before mac couldnt use any windows software, now they can install windows on it so u can choose to use mac or windows. windows desktops give you more choices to personalize your computer case over a sliver/white mac.if you want to check out some cool modded cased check out. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&SubCategory=7&N=2010090007 u can see the different styles u wont get on a mac, also people say that mac is impossible to hack.NOT TRUE at a hacker conference they had 3 different systems the mac was the FASTEST to get hacked by hackers, viruses are rare thing for mac, windows you will get more unless you have a good virus protection software.i been using windows for years and so far so good..

Questioning Machine,

I recently returned three Vista SP1 laptops because Vista sucked so bad. It was slow, would not run applications that ran on XP and would not run any of my devices for starters. I needed a computer that could definitely work right out of the box and ended up purchasing a MacBook Pro. Before then, I never considered purchasing a Mac and now I absolutely cannot see myself going back to a PC.

If you compare the hardware, you will see that the Mac use high grade hardware than PC and generally cost the same. If you price out hardware like for like, you will find no difference. What I've experienced is the difference between the two is the way they are put together. When a Mac is put together, the do it with one set of hardware they selected and Apple tests and tests them with their OS to eliminate the bugs before you buy it. They have tested all the drivers and platforms and also integrated the software to work well with all the components.

As an example, I am a lifetime Microsoft OS user and using Bootcamp was able to load XP onto my Mac so I could run all my old Apps. XP runs and Vista actually run faster and better on a Mac because Macs hardware was selected because they work best together. With PCs the components are all put in without the manufacturer considering and testing how they work together. It means all those drivers must all perfecting hit the platform and all do it in a way the will not conflict with one another. With so many different hardware configurations, it is so much more difficult for an operating system to achieve. That has been the problem with vista.

Leopard is definitely an easier to use OS. It contains $200 worth of software Vista does not have. There are no worries about Viruses. Because the OS system is 64 bit, Leopard can utilize 4GB RAM while running 32 bit software applications while Vista max is only 3GB because on its 32 Bit OS can run 32bit software applications

For a Mac, Safari is better than IE7, Quicktime and Quicktime Pro are used by industry professional and is much better than Windows media player. For a Mac, you have literally the oxford dictionary at your finger tips, everything is simple to use and made to be integrated with each other. On Vista, moving in and out of applications take a 5 steps, but with a Mac-Only max. If want a computer that you only need to websurf, chat, run word docs, play DVDs, Skype than a PC is all you may need, but if you want to use graphics, photo edit, Film edit, play with music or mix a Mac is the only way to go.

MacBooks are the top selling laptops on college campuses. But if ou want a MacBook, best to wait until after Oct 14. That is when the new ones are expected to hit the stores.

I would highly recommend a Mac. If you want to make your own website, you have slick software that will help you. I have both systems on my Mac and now I spend almost all my time on the Mac OS and almost none on the XP side. If you buy a Mac,you wil also get 90 days of free and excellent technical support that Microsoft on its best day would never provide.

Hope that heps

mac follows different style. I prefer PC due to the flexibility, number of available softwares and I'm used to PC!! It will be a harder job to open your mac and do some repairs and usually it is not recommended by mac!!!! but if you go with pc, you can buy all the parts you need and build up your pc from the scratch!

And my personal idea is, the Apple Mac is more Hyped than any other thing on the planet. If you don't have used mac or have no experience, then those buzz and the Mac Ads will always force you to buy one!!!

a mac is easier to use. software works together better because it was built to be able to work in one program and take it to another very easily. also all the hard ware comes from on company so it works all together so no chance of something not working. Downside you cant update the hardware. also mac had the visual desktop before microsoft did.
