I bought/downloaded like 250 books (gutenberg.org) for my Kindle Dx. I think has a lot of great free out of copyright books, plus purchased maybe 40 from Amazon. Only like 20% include the title in the file name, the other 80% have titles like aalsdkei.mobi and qeituohq.azw. I need to rename the files so I can only put the files I WANT on my Kindle. How do I open/read the files on my laptop so I can see what file book adlkfjaleja.mobi is so I can rename it?

I have a Kindle, it was about $130 and in the long run i think the e-readers are cheaper because there are many sites that give away free downloads of recent and popular book. I do enjoy real books more but it soon adds up to a lot of money and with the e-readers you can have more then one or two books on hand.

I think what you are going to find is that the File format on Kindle is different from a pc you might try looking for an Emulator ,I am not saying that there is such a thing , for now you can send the files back to Amazon to be converted .
