Why does my laptop keep saying I don't have an audio output device installed?!?

I have a Compaq NX9005. I had it on Windows XP and the sound worked fine, but I've upgraded to Windows 7 and it now says that I don't have an audio output device installed, so I have no sound! Now I know it works, but have no idea how to get it going again. I've tried downloading the updated drivers, but it says I have the best ones installed now (but I still tried), I've tried codecs and all sorts... is there some way to get Windows 7 to realize that I *do* have an audio output device installed, and to make my sound work again?

You`ve lost your device driver when you installed windows 7.

I`ve had a look at the hp site and it`s not showing drivers for vista or windows 7 for the HP Compaq nx9005.

If the previous two suggestions don't work use the warranty service if you are still under warranty. I also purchased an extended service contract when I bought my Toshiba - they have been pretty good and took care of a few fixes I wanted! I even got a free replacement battery and new A/C adapter too!
