I've been trying multiple times to get my other laptop to boot up. A few days ago we started noticing that there were a ton of weird pop-ups and the computer not acting normally. The next day some strange virus program made it's way onto the computer that nobody downloaded. Well, we started up the actual Virus scanner and did a couple of runs. Now, the computer won't boot up at all. I've tried about 20 times to get it to boot up and was only successful one time. That one time - some blue screen came up and shut off the computer within a couple of minutes. So now I can't do any more scans. It won't even let me do anything when I try to boot it up in safe mode. Here's what happened when I tried:

Black screen & ended with:
WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mup.sys

Next screen:
safe mode in all four corners

Next screen:
windows is starting up

Next screen:
acts like it's booting up and loading

Next screen:
compaq screen

Next screen:
welcome screen

Desktop screen, this popped up:
Spyware Alert!
Security Warning!
Worm.Win32.Netsky detected on your machine.
This cirus is distributed via the Interenet through e-mail and Active-x objects.
The worm has its own SMTP engine which means it gathers e-mails from your local computer and re-disitributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attachers to acces your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. Viruses can damage your confidential data and work on your computer. Continue working in unprotected mode is very dangerous.

Type: Virus
System Affected: Windows 2000, NT, ME, XP, Vista, 7
Security Risk (0-5): 5
Recommendations: It is necessary to perform a full system scan.

I figured that was apart of the virus so I X'd out of that screen.

Then it acted like it would load. Empty desktop background and nothing loads.

There will probably be a better answer then this but if i were you id restore your computer to factory settings from a recovery disk if you dont have one you could probbly get one off of compaqs website if windows was preinstalled if you installed it yourself there should be some instrutions also if you cant access from safe mode then try holding the windows key and ull probably be able to get the start menu to pop up eventually sorry i couldnt be much help

This might not "clean" the viruses but it will help

If you have another account during the start up (welcome screen). Go to the control panel and delete the account that has this problem and it should clear it out. Start another computer scan on the new file and clean all viruses if possible.

It worked for me a few times, of course, never trust computer scanners that are randomly popped out or downloaded automatically.
