My Asus laptop keeps toggling form ac mode to battery mode. The battery does not seem to be charging correctly. When it switches itself to battery mode the screen goes black. Then wont come back on for about 15 mins. I have bought a new ac adaptor cord . I took my computer to staples and they found an adaptor plug with the same volts that would work with my laptop. It has not solved the issure. Is my computer overheating or do I have a bad port where I plug in the ac adaptor... if it is the port is that expensive to fix... or not worth fixing?

Try some of the below tips to see if your problem get fixes.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Asus laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.

Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and power on your Asus laptop with the charger only.

---Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack is loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill.

---Always, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace or exchange the defective charger if you can. Since battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, to help you save up some, next time, you can consider getting a Asus charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com

Yeah I have this problem, too. There probably isn't anything wrong with the cord or the battery, but the connection is the problem. I was told, when I got it fixed, that mine got made wrong, but now I'm thinking it's a design flaw by ASUS, considering how many asks like this I've seen on Google. I do not think that there is a way to fix this, at least not permanently. I took it to the shop and got it fixed, and it was fine for about 3 months, but the problem has popped back up again recently. I have resigned myself to duc-taping it in place (moderate success) until it gets too bad.

A tip though: when you have enough charge, unplug and let the cord cool down. It gets hot eventually and that seems to make the problem of not charging worse.

Lately I've developed this problem with my Asus K43U with AMD processor. When I first start it up, the Power4Gear application switches between battery and high performance modes several times until it stops at the high performance one. This happens when the laptop is plugged. I think it started when someone in my new office removed my laptop's cord at the connector rather than the power socket. But the instructions said never to do that. The switching stops after a while, but I wonder if this proves the instruction's warning. I guess the lesson is, when your device has instructions, follow them.

Problem with the port where the cord plugs into the laptop resulting in an intermittent connection....it's probably worth fixing...it depends on how much a shop is going to charge you to replace or resolder the port.

It's not an over-heating issue...there is a bad connection somewhere so the power supply goes on and off.

All are wrong, it has nothing to do with the power supply... nothing to do with any hardware issue. It is a built in program bloatware type to inspire new sales. Just go into add/remove programs... DELETE ATK, which is the program that supposedly controls your power supply. THAT IS IT! WELCOME ALLLLL enjoy your Asus built to scam Laptop... this problem runs across their spectrum of laptops. Don't be a sucker, they make bloatware to manipulate less than pro users to think their machine is short, needs a new power supply and after that doesnt work, needs a new machine.

I'm not sure if there is such a feature, coz I just basically plug and unplug my AC cord.

Sounds like cracked solder connections in the DC Jack.

It will have to be re-soldered.
