Do all of the recent models of laptops have an automatic shutdown function when they become too warm?

I've recently been looking to get a new laptop and one of the things bugging me is that my brother's laptop (A gateway with vista operating system, that's all I know.) shuts off automatically when it becomes warm. This is a problem because whatever was on it that wasn't saved was lost. No warning, nothing. Just shuts off. I want to know if the more recent, windows 7 carrying laptops have this function and, if they do, is there a way to turn it off or to have it removed?

I am certain that "all" new laptops don't do this, and in fact I doubt that many (or even any) do. Laptops are more concerned with shutting down when the battery is low.



There are a lot of things you can do if a laptop is routinely overheating. Put a vacuum cleaner up against all of the fan grills, you might be able to suck out the dust and gunk that accumulates in any computer fan. Secondly you have to use a laptop on an appropriate surface - beds, blankets etc are not good because they bunch up and block the airflow. Use it on a desk or something with a hard flat surface.



You can also get fan pads designed to sit under a laptop and help cool them a bit better. The other thing to do is to make sure the laptop isn't being overworked - only have open and running what needs to be running at any time.

I don't think its a specific feature they put on there, its just when it gets too hot, it stops working. And, my laptop, an advent 5..something or other, not sure of the model, it overheats often, and it doesn't have windows 7, it has vista home premium. Get a macbook? :)
