Is leaving your computer "on" but in Hibernate mode all night harmful?

Because I hope not! Leaving it in Hibernate obviously makes things start up much faster - Firefox usually takes up to 10 minutes to start up the first time I turn the computer on, I literally click to start it up and then go do something else so I don't suffer, hehe. But is it harmful to the computer's memory? Or is it totally okay?

Hibernate mode is not harmful to the computer at all. Microsoft wouldn't put it there if it were. All it is is a power friendly alternative to Sleep mode. When you put the computer to sleep it loads its current running condition into the system memory (RAM) and turns other components off (video, hard drive, etc) while only supplying power to the CPU and RAM to reserve the system state. Hibernate mode on the other hand saves the current system state to the hard drive allowing the computer to completely power off. When you start up your computer again it just loads the system from the file it generated during hibernate. This starts up the computer much faster since it doesn't have to go through a boot sequence.

There is a down side to Hibernate though. While your system is running, various files and programs get loaded and unloaded. After a while your systems running state can become cluttered which in turn bogs it down. A complete shutdown resets the systems running state. When you hibernate you are saving the systems running state so you can start from where you left off. After several days off this you might notice your computer lagging a bit. Although this isn't harmful to your system, it is highly annoying. Its not a problem though as all you would have to do is let your system actually shutdown once in a while rather then hibernating all the time.

"Standby" your data is saved in RAM, but your hard drive and monitor are shut off. While this conserves power, your battery is still be used to a lesser degree to maintain the data in RAM.

But with "Hibernate" your computer is shut off and the data is stored on the hard drive. While this is safer (in terms of less risk of data loss) and uses no battery power, it does take longer to reboot to your previous work.

So don't worry about this matter. It's NOT harmful to the computer's memory.

If Firefox takes about 10 minutes to start up the first time, I think you Should re-install your system.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is CCleaner, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.

CCleaner is also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than nomal. Download it here for free: http://bit.ly/1mQZhtQ

It is better to shut down the PC and let it cool off each day or two, I'd say turn it off by night and 10 minutes aren't much to wait for the next time you wanna use it...

Hybernating is not harmful but definitely shutting it down when the pc is not in use. It will prolong it's components working life aside from savings in electrical energy since power is still consumed in hybernate mode.
