I have an IBM ThinkPad and some how, the little black tabs inside of the USB port got snapped off and the little metal prongs got bent back. This happened to both of them, don't even ask how...Now it does not even function. Before it used to work a little bit if I fit it in the right place with my Ipod cable, but now it does not even detect my ipod in itunes under "Devices". It would only charge my ipod a little bit, and then stop. I'm sick of listening to the same playlist over and over and I really want to update my ipod...what can I do about this situation? How can I repair it and how much am I going to have to spend?

Your usb ports are gone. Bent pins, broken tab etc will only get worse by time, and by the sound of it, its gone beyond the point where it'd keep working. All the errors you mentioned are caused by bad usb connection.

Now you now have 2 options.

1: If you are very confident (or know someone who is) with soldering, and have right equipment, you could try to solder a new port on the motherboard. This is really risky if you arent skilled. New port can be obtained from a cheap usb-hub, an old motherboard or something.

2: if you have a PCMCIA slot, you can try buying a USB2 pcmcia card. See picture below. These can be found either on ebay or try a local hardware shop. Shouldnt be too expensive, around 20-40$ i'd say.

a working laptop or pc generally has 2 or 4 USB ports. N lots of the time we don't use all of them. this is uncommon that USB port get corrupt. it would desire to be the working device of pc Which has the priority. attempt restoring pc to returned date while the pc and USB ports have been working high-quality. besides the fact that u would desire to purchase a device which could multiply your single USB port, eBay it would no longer be high priced in assessment to repairing of your corrupt USB port.

open the device manager, delete all the usb device installed after that scan all devices. that will re-install all the driver to its original settings..
