Hi everybody, my question is: how to fix my ibook sound ?
One week ago this mac was working ok (sound), my roommate used and he doesn’t know what happened, he said there wasn’t sound in the internal speakers when he took it but I know he is lying me, and I think he moves something in this computer but maybe it is a hardware problem.
I formatted and re-install Mac OSX, and I updated to 10.4.9, then this ibook is up to date.
I don’t know if it’s a hardware or software problem, I don’t know nothing about mac’s but I know a lot about pc’s (hardware and software) and I don’t know if is almost the same respect drivers, bios, etc. like pc’s.
In the bar menu I have the sound icon.
I opened System Profiled in Audio (Built-In) and I got:
Devices: Texas Instruments TAS3004
Inputs and Outputs:
Internal Microphone:
Controls : Left, Right
Playthrough: No
PluginID: TAS
Headphones:
Controls: Mute, Left, Right
PluginID: TAS
Internal Speakers:
Controls: Mute, Left, Right
PluginID: TAS

When you have this problem, if you check System Preferences -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI -> Built-in Output, what is the sampling rate? Some apps inadvertently set that value to 96kHz instead of 44.2 or 48kHz, which the hardware cannot handle in most instances. Manually setting that back to the manageable numbers through the pull-down menu fixes most of my problems.

Also default sounds settings get changed by some application and that is what breaks the sound in flash and in some other programs. when you open garageband it resets the settings therefore fixing the problem. Best of luck with your problem if all fails might be that someone did mess it up or spilled something on it.

in my opinion the ibook is in simple terms nice, as in 2 years he would be just about sixteen and could the two choose a swifter device or a vehicle... Powerbooks are great, yet seem on the expenses. They lose cost like a clean vehicle with out postpone besides, so whether this is totally just about college artwork and video games, get the ibook, till the video games are the reason of the acquisition. Powerbooks have extra pictures reminiscence and swifter processors. we are talking some new dependancy right here.

If your system prefs show your speakers as on, and you still have no sound, try doing a Permissions Repair with your Disc Utility.

Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility

Click once on the drive they list, and click Repair Permissions. See if that works.

You could also do a clean reinstall of your OS.

I also suspect your roomate might have dropped, or spilled something on your machine.
