I'm really not sure what the voltage limits are or anything. And I have 0 experience with laptops. My firend wants me to fix up his computer, but the battery is like half dead.. I have a charger here that came with an Acer, it's the right size plug but I don't know if it would be safe to use on his comp? If I need to know the voltage limits could someone please instruct me on how to find it? Thanks. (He is using Windows XP if that helps)

Look at the charger and see what voltage and wattage it is for, on "output" It should say something like " 9v 500mw " which is 9 volts, 500 milliwatts, or half a watt. Chargers come in different voltage, and just because they look the same and the plug fits, doesn't mean they are the same voltage and wattage. Look up the laptop on its website, find the "support" for it and download a manual, it might say what voltage the charger is. You might then be able to find one on Ebay, or on the website you got the manual from.

Another thing, even if it is the same voltage, sometimes they are reverse current. The outside of the plug is usually (-) negative, and the inside is (+), but I have seen transformers that are just the opposite, with (+) being the outside. So the charger you have may be the same voltage, but the plug might be backwards.

Best to find the right charger. A few dollars spent can save your computer, and battery.

Really it just depends on the charger... Instead of going out and paying $100 for a new Toshiba charger, sometimes you can find converters for about $5 online or at BestBuy.

Yes it is compatible. the AC adapter's voltage always bigger than the battery voltage. try taking the battery out to see whether the computer can work or not.
